Updated to 2.8.1 and now have a fatal error

    Okay, just updated to 2.8.1. Was about to update to 1.0.3 BP, but I’m getting this error:

    “Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_core_get_user_displayname() in /home/content/d/o/o/doorqtech/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php on line 238”

    Can’t upgrade BP either from the admin panel, as that error throws things off. Suggestions?

    Have you deactivated Buddypress before trying to upgrade Buddypress?

    Actually, can’t even deactivate BP at this point. Clicking deactivate returns that same fatal error.

    And none of the mu blogs are working either. Using any of those urls returns the same error, the bp-core-templatetags.php.

    I should add that even the wp-admin page is returning that same error.

    Rename the buddypress directory to something else. That will force it to deactivate and you can trouble shoot your installation from there.

    Thanks. I renamed BP, Welcome Pack and the album plugin and now I have admin access again.

    Seems as though 2.8.1 really hasn’t installed. I’m getting a message at the top of the admin page that 2.8.1 is available and another at the bottom saying I’m running 2.8.1.

    2.8.1 is probably installed, but there is a bug in it that is causing that message to still appear. It is fixed in the MU trunk and 2.8.2 is coming soon.

    I’ll do the 2.8.2 update and see if that fixes it.

    Leaving for Comic-Con in the morning, so things might have to wait for a few days.
