Upload files into Groups

Hi,
I am using the Group Extension API to create some pages with custom fields.
I have managed to create text fields but now i would like to be able to upload
files.
Is there any simple way to do it ?

you have some plugins who can do that.

(was initially created by Peter Anselmo and now adapted to work with BP 1.5.5+ )

Thanks for your answer, but actually i would rather avoid the use of a plugin.
If this is possible, i would like to try to do it myself.

Is there a way to provide the possibility to upload a file using something like a custom field ?
