Use wordpress registration, with buddypress installed?

Hello, if i could use the original wordpress registration it would solve all my problems.
It allows the user of 1 username, caps, spaces etc.
If i disable the buddpress plugin, create a user account with the wp register, and re enable the bp plugin… i can use the account i created just fine.
Any help on this?
the only noob way i can think of is creating another wordpress install on another directry say site.com/bp/wp
and use the same database details for both and then have the register page from bp redirect to the wordpress register…
