User diaries on BuddyPress and promoting posts

I’m helping move a long-time Drupal site with a several thousand users to WordPress. We’re using BuddyPress and the Atahualpa theme. I have Forums installed.
Question: How do I do user diaries in BuddyPress as they work in Drupal? These are personal blog written by one person in which posts can be promoted to the front page. I know this can be done in BuddyPress. I’m just not sure how.
Any help appreciated. Thanks!
