User privacy settings ineffective

  • Hello, hoping someone might shed some light on a small (large) issue I am having with user privacy settings…namely, they don’t seem to do anything. I have set the BuddyPress privacy settings options to display only to friends. The user account has a role of Member. However, all other members, even those not friended, can still see all information.

    Wordpress 3.3.1
    Buddypress 1.5.4
    theme: Magazine-Basic

Also, on a seperate note, I was under the impression that forum sticky topics are supposed to appear at the top of the list, however, mine do not…they are treated as any other topic and appear dependant on what ever sorting option is choosen. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

  • Current version of BuddyPress doesn’t have any privacy settings, so, which plugin are you running?

Hmmm, thanks. Looks like they are part of the Buddypress Profile Privacy plugin. Did not know that this plugin also had these settings. So here is what happens:

Setting privacy on individual profile fields in the profile editor works
Setting privacy setting in Profile -> Settings -> Privacy does nothing at all.

    Maybe it’s something I’m doing / not doing, I don’t know.

    Is Buddypress Profile Privacy 1.4.2

    Will investigate further.

Make sure you read set up instructions. There is a code edit required to make settings work.
