I installed a buddypress theme called ‘Bounce’ on my wordpress website

I am not able to send my registered users an activation code, could this be because I don’t have an email for the website, (i use an @gmail email system instead of something like info@ledtechconnect.com, which i’m not using)

I consulted with the company that designed the buddypress theme and we came to a conclusion that the theme is not faulty and that would most probably be a buddypress issue, but my theory is that I don’t have a proper emailing system for the website. Do I need to have a proper emailing account for my users to receive an activation code.
