View Profile Crashes in Internet Explorer

    Hello all,

I am having an issue that I have isolated to Internet Explorer.

When a member edits their profile, then goes to view the profile, Internet explorer displays an error message saying “Internet Explorer has stopped working – A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”

This message just repeats over and over until you close internet explorer completely.

I appreciate any suggestions, or pointers, on how to isolate what may be causing this issue, and how it may be solved.

    UPDATE:

I have narrowed it down to be an issue with displaying an iFrame within the profile.

IE can view profiles with iframes in them, but when transitioning from the edit page to the view page, this causes the error.

    UPDATE: (RESOLVED)

This ended up being a known issue with IE that Microsoft refuses to fix, since Edge doesn’t have this problem.

    https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/details/2136096/ie-11-crashing-when-wrapping-iframe-in-another-dom-element-while-redirecting

in bp-custom.php, I have code that allows members to post a youtube url, and embed a video in their profile.

The code used to build the iframe would use the source url “http://” rather than “https://”

this caused a redirect within the iframe, which crashes IE, but not Chrome, Firefox, or Edge

I hope this helps someone in the future
