What determines which media asset in post shows up in activity stream?

Hello – I have a site where suddenly the featured image for new posts is being displayed in the site-wide activity, but until recently it would instead show a vimeo video that we place after the MORE tag in every post.

I’d rather have the vimeo video go into the site-wide activity, not the featured image. This change does not coincide with updates to WP, BP or Jetpack which we use as it improves the look of embedded Vimeo videos (side note: this is disputed by Jetpack support but easily duplicateD).

Is there way I can force the media or embedded video in a post to go to the activity feed, instead of the featured image?

Site is running WordPress 4.9.5, BP 2.9.4 and a Genesis-based theme. Thanks!

I think the first thing to do is to check there’s nothing interfering with the loading of the translation – unload all of your plugins except BP and Custom MO. Also try it running the 2017 theme.

Not sure how that happened, I thought I was replying to a different post!

From my experience the activity will display an excerpt of the content plus either the first image in the post or the featured image, with the featured image taking precedence.

There must have been some plugin blocking this which stopped doing so I reckon.

If you do not select a featured image and the video is first in the post it should display the video. Not the answer you are looking for but I’m not aware of any simple way of changing this functionality.

I’ve been looking at this today, the function in question is bp_activity_create_summary() this runs an algorithm that determines what part of the content is shown. It’s not easily possible to over-ride the way this works.
