What is the best approach for displaying a friend dependent only activity stream?

I want only your friends activity to show up in the activity stream by default when you click the activity menu button and taken to the activity page? There is not any point in seeing activity of non-friends unless of course your logged in as an administrator. I am using wp 3.2.1 and bp 1.5.1 I have seen some code snippets on the net but most of it is outdated or fires off errors. Thanks!
