Where do I find what my htaccess should be?

Hello, I’m having a ton of trouble with links in my new BuddyPress installations on two separate sites. I’ve installed the most recent versions of BuddyPress and bbPress on the most recently updated WordPress:

    WordPress 3.8.1
    bbPress 1.0.4
    BuddyPress 1.9.2

After days and hours of trying to figure out what the heck is going on (and yeah, there was an uninstall and reinstall in there) I’ve stumbled upon some references to the htaccess file and that it can cause redirects. The problem is there are posts everywhere with different code in them for htaccess, so can anyone link me to where I find out what mine should be?

Single site, yes “Pretty Links” are set up, hmmm… what else… oh sometimes I can create groups, sometimes not, and once I link a bbPress forum to a BuddyPress group that forum is no longer accessible (redirects to forum index) even after I tell BuddyPress it’s not the group’s forum any more, so definitely something wonky going on with the assignation of links on the BuddyPress side.

I just would like to dbl check it’s not my htaccess, please 😀

generally speaking the htaccess file is located in the root public html directory.

@ubernaut, I guess I wasn’t clear: I’m looking for resources to explain what’s supposed to be *inside* htaccess for the most recent BuddyPress installation, as in the code. All the posts about it have different code, and after hours and days of research I can’t find what it’s supposed to have for the latest version, thanks for your response 🙂

sorry i read the title of you post too quickly htaccess shouldn’t need anything special for buddypress the standard wordpress compatible htaccess is fine. group based forums are depreciated so i wouldn’t expect that work anymore anyway.

I… don’t think they are deprecated, in fact, they’ve received a freshening up…

Anyway, I found the issue, and it has to do with redirect conflicts in the BuddyPress code itself. I’ve responded here w/ moar infos:

The Group Forums component in BuddyPress has been retired and it is indeed advised to use bbPress (version 2.x).

@tietoep the Group Forums I am speaking of *are* bbPress, as chosen by the BuddyPress Group in the Group’s settings. I explained this quite clearly in the first post 😉

Nope… What you’re referring to is the User Groups component, which can link groups to a specific bbPress (2.x) forum.
Have you tried if it works with bbPress 2.5.3, with all other plugins disabled and using a default theme?
