The best place to learn how BuddyPress works is the codebase. Over the past few years, the inline docs have been improved tremendously and are now at a point where they’re very useful.
Late response from me, but I just feel like the codex should not be so freaking skimpy and weak. I have nothing against digging around in github. However, if the developers want the platform to grow the codex should be more comprehensive. Is buddypress an npo or community project?
The Codex is maintained by volunteers (we’re all volunteers here at BP, even the core devs). The good thing is it’s an open source project so you can edit pages, and add new info yourself if you see something that needs improving.
So if I took the info from the github catacombs and summarized it, I can submit it? That I would love to do. Thank you Henry :3

Then please help to make it better! As mentioned BP is a voluntary project representing many many hours of freely given time by the core dev team and various contributors. The codex is something that takes a massive amount of time to organize and update, myself and mercime have given a lot of our time, over the last two years to trying to update and better organize the codex, help is always welcome though and aspects like the codex are only as good as the time the wider community are willing to put in.
