Why are there so many scam posts on the general activity stream

It pains me to see so many of them here. And my own BuddyPress sites are also plagued by it. And I’ve had to uninstall BP from a few of my sites (the one’s that I have total control over)

Is something being done about this, especially on this, the home of BuddyPress.

I don’t think this is a problem with Buddypress, so much as any popular WordPress site. They will get plenty of spambots registering for accounts.

There are plenty of solutions including:

Captcha plugins like SI Captcha or WP-Recaptcha
Akismet
Bad Behavior
Etc,

However, the best solution is active moderation. And I’m guessing the crew that runs this site is also busy developing Buddypress, bbPress, etc. to spend a bunch of time moderating this site. Perhaps they should seek out volunteers to help moderate.

Well I guess BP should be more watchful with this and upgrade the membership.

I’ve notified one of the admins. FYI, moderators on bp.org cannot delete activity updates, only forum posts.

I’m getting scam posts to me directly. Is there a way to ban these guys? Report them to someone?
