Why Couldn’t the Groups component structure work for Blogs?

    Why couldn’t the blogs directory work off of the same way groups does? Every blog auto has a group that can be made public or private. With a group-like layer for member blogs you can now have customizable avatars for your blog. You get an activity stream for your blog, a forum for you blog if you choose. Members(followers) directory for your blog. Basically a profile for your blog. An idea.

    This is very much possible to do. Would be neat to see a setup using this.

    Yes. I’m ready to do away with groups as standalone but fold them into the multisite blog aspect of the site somehow. If I could do it I would. So if it could be a modified groups plugin to combine and replace groups and blogs, that would be great. I would use it tomorrow.

    Come to think of it, you would then have an admin where your blog could assign roles just as you can assign moderators in groups. You would also then have a “group” blog for your group,er blog. It opens up a lot of room to create. I’m just sayin.

    Isn’t this almost exactly what you proposed yourself a number of months ago? I seem to remember reading a track ticket or something on this exact same concept. Curious if anything ever happened with this idea.

    I would really like to see this happen. If not just for the standard group features applied to a blog’s “profile” but also for the possibility of the frontend admin for a blog using the group admin setup –

    Edit Details==Blog Name, Blog Tagline.
    Group Settings == Privacy Options
    Group Avatar == Blog Avatar
    Manage Members == Blog User Roles

    Include some of the plugins that already exist for groups and frontend quick posts…and it could be quite nice. c’mon ninjas rally!
