WordPress newby needs conceptual guidance

    Colleagues,

I have a large, complex site (thousands of articles, hundreds of authors and tens of thousands of users), built on DotNetNuke (a Windows-based CMS built with ASP.NET). I want to create its equivalent in WordPress. Badly. :-)

I’ve just created a WordPress test site. However, being new to WordPress, I am having trouble making some key initial decisions about implementing WordPress, WordPress MU, and BuddyPress. My questions are laughably simple, I hope.

I want the site to function as a social network, so I’ve installed BuddyPress. That part is easy.

Here’s what’s tripping me up: On my DotNetNuke site, I have an article module (aka plugin) that is added to a page. The module let’s me have a roster of article contributors, all contributing their articles. I guess it’s analogous to a multi-author blog. I have set up the article module in three places on my site, each serving different purposes and having different sets of authors based on DotNetNuke security roles. When the author posts, his/her Profile page Journal is updated, and other social network things happen.

So, what’s the best way to set this up in WordPress?

Thanks for helping me with a basic question. Once I have more time with it, I’m sure I’ll be figuring this stuff out but right now, it’s tough to know the right way to go.
