WordPress Usernames not the same as buddy press names

I use wishlist member to register some people for my buddypress install. It set all new users to a temporary name and then reset the name in wordpress, but buddy press is still using temp_1234567 in urls. If i use BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODE, the links change to to correct username, but none of the links work.
Anybody had this problem or something similar and know how to fix it? It’s not a huge deal yet, but I don’t even know what doesn’t work besides certain functions on the profile page because of it. Or am I so new that it’s something I’m just over looking???
