I want to change some of the wording such as: Posted on: [DATE] to Added: [DATE]. Where would I do this? I am using the default theme for buddypress.

Another technique!.
I haven’t tried it but http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/codestyling-localization/ should be buddypress compatible and might make things easier….
Although Poedit is quite easy to use
Thank You! I will give it a try.
This is very helpful. However, I am also wanting to add some code inline with something like: “February 9, 2012 in News” above a post on the front page. Where would I edit this?
I’m not sure I understand you, but you may need to copy index.php file from /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/index.php to your child theme, ie: /wp-content/themes/default-child/index.php and edit it there.
