@hnla Ticket updated, in case you’d like to weigh in there.
Thanks @djpaul
Support is merged, yay!
So now, BuddyPress support is at http://buddypress.org/support and support for BuddyPress plugins is at http://wordpress.org/support
Fair point. I will try to flesh out the whys and wherefores.
As for contributing code, that’s my Achilles’ heel. If I was able to code, as opposed to being just an end-user, I would have put in a fair bit of work (e.g. I do at OpenCart http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=extension/extension&filter_username=OC2PS as due to their vQmod system http://code.google.com/p/vqmod/ I can patch things up to my liking without a great deal of PHP or even programming knowledge)
I haven’t seen a post by @johnjamesjacoby on this yet. At the very least I haven’t seen any tags that say CPT, custom post types, or custom taxonomies.
Please close in favor of the topic on wordpress.org
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-bp-better-directories-ready-or-notI would go with BuddyPress Media plugin, as opposed to “BuddyPress Media” forked product. Not a big fan of forks, and the plugin is being actively developed and supported.
Is there a way you can put a direct download link on the plugins page so you do not have to click into its details in order to download the plugin, like a download it now kinda link?
@peterjhead I would oppose the idea. The objective to drive the plugin traffic off to WordPress. Making downloading plugins easier directly on buddypress.org would defeat that objective.
P.S. Regarding internationalization, might make sense to have a big fat link in main menu to http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/buddypress/dev
Super awesome, @johnjamesjacoby , especially shifting plugin support to wordpress.org
Bask in the glory for a couple of days, and then we’ll dream of getting 1.7 before Christmas
There is a ticket https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4509
By delete the markup, I assume you mean delete it from the template files. Or, less efficiently, I could use CSS to not display the avatar.
But when I say disable group avatars, I am also thinking about cutting off the group creation step where people can upload avatars, and remove avatar tab from group edit screen…
I mean this website, i.e. buddypress.org
I am unable to join any groups here.
(not related to the other post)
@karmatosed At BPDevel, you actually directed me to post here…
@modemlooper You don’t. What you are referring to (news feed) is the subject of the last paragraph of my above message.
News Feed in Facebook is very different from Profile Page in BuddyPress. The difference is who’s viewing. When I go to YOUR profile page @modemlooper I don’t care for the activity of your friends – unfortunately, that’s what BP does. When I log into MY account, I do want to see the activity of my friends – that’s what Facebook does.
4. What does filter dropdown do on the member directory page?
3. We need to add search box and sort dropdown.
Ideally, the site admin should be able to define how the list would be sorted – alphabetically, by most activity, by latest activity, etc.
Will there be a forward function?
What about expand/contract?
Additional functions: Like/Dislike?
On the Profile page, what do the “Personal” and “Friends” links refer to?
If they are activity filters, I don’t really see the utility of having activity of friends on the profile page. Maybe there are some edge cases, but do you think it is a common-enough need to deserve such valuable real-estate?
If I go to A’s profile, I want to see A’s stuff not his friends’. There Friends tab is “noise” and a UI complication as far as I am concerned. In Facebook or Twitter or G+, do you see friends’ activity on A’s profile page, or even a link to it? No sir, you don’t.
Of course, if I am A, and I am logged in, then I want to see the activity of friends, and people I am following etc, but my profile page is not the page for that. Rather, it could be the landing page upon login, just like in the case of Facebook.
1. I think the code should not specify (hardcode) the number of columns…rather the number of columns should be determined based on width available….
2. How about only having profile pictures in member directory? (overlayed name, username, etc on hover). Similar to upcoming MySpace http://vimeo.com/50071857
Sounds very promising.
Pity it seems to be dead http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-members-avatar-map/
Even developer’s website seems dead http://web-world.co.il/
@hnla Could you possibly consider taking over this plugin and updating it for BP 1.6.1?
Trac can have a relatively narrow discussion. Forums have a larger audience and greater participation.
Besides I can;t log into trac for some reason.
Yup, would be good if BP developers pick one of these and merge it into the core.
Photos can’t be an afterthought. Media is a part of even the WP core.
@mercime Spot on! This is clear from
http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2741
http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4128However, as discussed at http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4132 there are good, safe ways of doing this.
