Boone Gorges posted on the forum topic This Plugin Causes Registration White Screen in the group BuddyPress Group Email Subscription: 13 years, 10 months ago
@gregfielding – Sorry for the lack of response, I’ve been away. Are you still having this problem? You’re sure that it’s this plugin that’s causing it? I ask because this plugin should in theory do nothing until someone signs up to be a member of a group, which happens after registration.

Boone Gorges posted on the forum topic Screwed up Group – please help!! in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 13 years, 10 months ago
Hm, it’s not clear to me off the top of my head how either the Group Email Subscription plugin or Group Management could cause the problem you describe. From the looks of it, bp_has_groups() was taking the wrong scope (pulling up all groups from the installation, rather than just the current group), which suggests that […]

How are your users getting to the Dashboard in the first place? They should be able to manage their profiles by going to My Profile -> Edit.

The Wire feature was deprecated with BuddyPress version 1.2. If you’d like to use the Wire, try installing the BuddyPress Backward Compatibility plugin and activating the wire feature: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-backwards-compatibility/ The functionality of the wire – namely, the ability to leave short messages for other users…[Read more]

The “not viewable to search engines” is probably causing the problem. Try switching it to public and see if it solves the problem.

Have you tried @jeffsayre‘s Hook Sniffer to see if your hooks aren’t being recognized in the right order? Last time I had a problem like this, Hook Sniffer solved it in five minutes. https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-hook-sniffer/

Boone Gorges posted on the forum topic how to retrieve the content of a specific page from each blog and display it in the blogs directory in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 13 years, 10 months ago
If you want to get content from different blogs on a WPMU/WPMS installation on a single BuddyPress page, you’ll probably have to use the function switch_to_blog(), and its partner restore_current_blog(). For example, if you run switch_to_blog(5) from your BP blog (I’m assuming it’s blog #1), any blog-specific functions you run (such as…[Read more]

Try putting this in your plugins/bp-custom.php file:
function remove_blogs_nav_for_zero() {
global $bp;if ( bp_blogs_total_blogs_for_user() == 0 )
bp_core_remove_nav_item( $bp->blogs->slug );
}
add_action( 'bp_setup_nav', 'remove_blogs_nav_for_zero', 11 );

Boone Gorges posted on the forum topic Does Group Email Notification only show activity from Forums??? in the group BuddyPress Group Email Subscription: 13 years, 10 months ago
Are they all running on the same server? Are other emails from BuddyPress (notifications of PMs, for instance) working correctly? Are you sure that you’ve set up the preferences correctly? Individuals do NOT receive email notifications of their own activity items, and they will only receive notification of activity items if they’ve subscribed…[Read more]

Boone Gorges posted on the forum topic Private Group Permalink Redirects to Home Page in the group Requests & Feedback: 13 years, 10 months ago
@themightymo The template file that handles this is bp-default/groups/single/home.php. See around line 44 – bp_group_status_message() creates the “to join this group…” message for private groups. If you want to customize the way that you are redirected, you should start here. It’s strange, though – BP 1.2.4.1 should do what you are suggesting…[Read more]

@wordpresschina – Thanks so much for your work on this, and especially for sharing your work on the forum. Very glad you were able to make it (mostly) work. When I built the plugin, I didn’t make any effort to differentiate between different kinds of profile fields (checkboxes vs radio buttons vs text boxes etc). It’s […]

Thanks, @ernieatlyd! I’m on vacation right now but will be able to have a look at this in about a week an a half. In the meantime, if anyone has a fairly active (and non-sensitive) Ning community and is willing to share a complete backup with me so that I can use it to build the […]

Boone Gorges posted on the forum topic Child Themes Not Automatically Being Assigned (by default) to New Blogs in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 13 years, 11 months ago
What you’re describing is the expected behavior of BP/WPMU. BP is designed to work on a single blog in a WP installation. Additional blogs are more or less totally independent (“more or less” because BP still tracks activity that happens on those blogs). You might be able to do what you’re trying to do with […]

Importing into BP wouldn’t be too hard in theory, but unfortunately Ning doesn’t give you an easy way to get your forum content out. If you can figure out a way to get it out in one piece, let me know and I’ll work on an importer – that would have a lot of value […]

Boone Gorges posted on the forum topic Performance of BuddyPress on WP versus WPMU in the group Miscellaneous: 13 years, 11 months ago
@techguy There are a couple of considerations. First, @travel-junkie is right that you don’t have to do too much to switch MS on in WP 3.0. However, once you’ve switched to MS you can’t go back. Second, WPMU(MS) performance is really just a function of how many blogs you’ve got. If you install MS and still only […]

Boone Gorges posted on the forum topic custom bp-language configuration not working in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 13 years, 11 months ago
Glad you figured it out – and good tip about the existing vs new activity. Activity action strings (x posted a new y) are saved in the db rather than generated on the fly, so they won’t be changed by a language file if they already exist.
