allow_call_time_pass_reference to true errors

    this is not the first time this error came up, unfortunately. and I’ve been scouring the forums with no success.

    `Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated; If you would like to pass it by reference, modify the declaration of apply_filters(). If you would like to enable call-time pass-by-reference, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference to true in your INI file in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-groups/bp-groups-notifications.php on line 83`
    (this error goes on several more times)

    these are the bits that I have found:

    – there was a great discussion about editing the core files (which I did and still received the error). This thread was also unresolved.

    – this guy ranting about the plugin. The response was concise, but it still did not work for me.

    I have seen notes about editing the php.ini file (like it says in the error message)
    this is my php.ini file (in it’s entirety)
    `memory_limit=48MB
    upload_max_filesize=10M
    post_max_size=20M
    allow_call_time_pass_reference=true`
    I have uploaded this file to the root directory, and to the wp-admin directory (where I saw a post said to put it)
    unfortunately, it does not seem to be affecting anything.

    I have edited my chmod’d my folders to make sure the write permissions are correctly set.

    what am I missing?
    and why do I get this error every time I post something to the groups?
    I do not get this error when I post to the forum.
    I am worried that my endless tinkering is going to break something down the line and I will have no idea what.
    in a perfect world, it would be an easy fix and we can all move on.

    any help would be appreciated. and hopefully, the answer will help other people in the future!

    Thats a weird error. Tell directly what happens, is this error when you activate it? Or visit a buddypress page?

    Hi Virtuali,
    thanks for looking at this.
    I am using WordPress Version 3.1.1
    buddypress Version 1.2.8

    the error is caused when I Post on a group page.
    the post goes through, but after this error.
    I do NOT get the error when posting on the forum page.

    also,
    when I try to create a new group, I get a whole page of errors (like below)
    when I go to the top of the groups page, the new group is there.

    any help is greatly appreciated!

    @infocoolsms WP/BP versions? Current versions require minimum PHP 5.2.4. If you are on minimum version, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference=true in your php.ini

    I am using php version 5.2.17, so.. Isn’t there any other option to solve this prob without updating php version?
