Are there any changes in relation to acceptable usernames ?

Is it still the case that it is

only lowercase, no spaces, no underscore.

What about hyphens ? Apostrophe ?

Are there any changes contemplated for future versions ?

We removed some legacy user name validation in 1.6. We now just let WP validate it, itself.
