I’ve updated the BuddyPress Like Plugin so it should now work properly on your buddyPress sites running the latest 1.7.x version.

I’ve been testing it myself on a few sites and it seems to be working ok. I;ll be continuging work on this, and hopefully releasing it to WordPress.org soon (it would be great if I could get the old plugins repo for users running the older version)
For the moment its available to download on Github

Current issues
Some more work needs to be done to the css and markup to properly integrate with themes.
Need to check for more bugs

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I’m currently working on some support and tidying up code. I’m not sure whether to fix a few things at a time or to do the massive rehaul I’d like to. Smaller amounts would be more manageable though I’d like to know from experienced plugin developers which is easier when you’ve different users using your plugins.

Hi @darrenmeehan looks interesting. Is this like cubepoints vote it up module? where users can like or vote on posts, comments, etc.? can you provide a screenshot?

The old ‘improvements vs. legacy support’ dance.

It’s a free plugin ( and a sweet one ) so do what’s best for you.

I’d do the overhaul and require BP 1.7 + going forward.

@shanebpdev Thanks for the input, yeah its even currently a sweet plugin which was why I wanted to get it out the door for users so to speak.
I remember when this plugin was first released and people loved it, so I’m hoping the feel the same now! I’ve a lot on my plate, but I plan to get as much work done to this plugin as I can. Where my effort goes to in BP Like depends on its users!

I mean when are you going to fork it and have it on the WordPress repository, or have you gained permission from the original author to overtake the updates? I really would like to see this on the repository! Thanks!

@bphelp I’ve tried contacting the developer but there was no way of contacting him that worked. I’ve sent off an email to plugins@wordpress.org to discuss getting commit access to the plugin as I feel this would be best for current users of the plugin, as well as give the plugin a better launch pad if I’m honest.

I think if an author abandoned a plugin for several years then they should give you commit access but that is just my opinion. I suppose the only way around it then is to fork it because it is GPL. Why not just call it BuddyPress Like Plus? Either way I think the improvements you made are pretty cool. So thank you for your hard work! 🙂

I’ve a few options with where to release the plugin, but for now I’d be happy to have a few users test it out to ensure it’s working on a variety of sites. I’ve some other work to do the next while but I’ve some other work to post over to the Github repo. Thanks again!

Thanks! And yes the Github is the latest version. It’ll be where all development takes place even when the plugin is on the WordPress repo

I have a plugin as well that has been submitted to the repo in the last 4 days that is yet to be approved but I could also use some others testing and supplying feedback. Hi @darrenmeehan

First, thanks for your effort with this plugin. I tried it in 1.6.x and 1.7 and the “Like” button is being displayed but after clicking it it starts to “ajaxify” but nothing happens and then get a blank button and after refresh it’s again the “Like” button.

Some time ago I tried this plugin and it worked for me but it’s not longer updated and it doesn’t records the people who liked the activity and this is this most important feauture in a like button for a social network.

I hope this could help.
