Migrating to a new site: blogs instead of forums

    Hi all,
I’ve run a buddypress site for a few years at http://www.yeahhackney.com (back when groups had forums)
I’ve decided to move to a new model where users blog rather than post forum threads, so I am going to use the user/profile bits on buddypress and the blogging functionality of wordpress.

I have a lot of content on my existing site and I want to know:

    1) is it possible to migrate any of it over: forum posts become blog posts and forum replies become blog comments while retaining the authors
    2) can I archive my existing site, yet leave the content searchable in a sub directory?

My current versions are: WP 3.5.1 / BP 1.6.4

I’m hoping a mix of the two.

Thanks in advance for your help

if you have converted your group based forums to the new site wide forums i believe you can by using a post type switching plugin (i believe forum posts are just custom post types). You might need to do some re-write rules or something to make sure the links still work though. I would strongly advise you to try this whole scenario out on a staging or test server first before attempting it on your live site though.

    Indeed, response from @jjj was:

“Update everything. Migrate bbPress data into CPT’s. Script topic/post/reply/comment migration by author to their blogs.”

I have now completed the migration. I ended up doing a lot of it manually – through csv files as it was a bit complicated.
