Multi-Site, multi-network questions

I have a wordpress multi-site install and then installed http://buddydev.com/plugins/buddypress-multi-network/ so that I could have multiple buddypress networks.

The problem is that I don’t want a user to be able to join any network they want.

For example, I have 1.[domain].com and 2.[domain].com. Each one has its own buddypress network. The problem is, even if I have the private buddypress plugin installed, if someone has an account on 1.[domain].com, then they can just login on 2.[domain].com.

I want to make it so that the user on 1.[domain].com would need to request access to 2.[domain].com in order to use it.

Also, is there a way for a person to set their avatar once on one network and not have to set it again when they become a user on the other network?

They can’t if the respective site admins do not allow open registration or if the site is set up for invitation-only membership. The user-base in NOT shared between sites for that plugin by default.

is there a way for a person to set their avatar once on one network and not have to set it again when they become a user on the other network?

Since the userbase is per site only, i.e., not shared across the network as I mentioned above, then by default no, the user has to upload avatar again in the next site.

Having said that, there may be ways around it. The best place to ask is at the plugin dev’s forums as @sbrajesh knows his code better than anybody else :-)

Would there be a way to do the opposite? In other words, once someone has joined 1.domain.com, they are part of a shared user table and can then join 2.domain.com and all of their profile information copies over?

@allenfuller – On http://dogsuniverse.dk/ we have 7 networks where the users profile is shared across all 7 networks but the user still have to login per network.
