Check out my work-in-progress BuddyPress site

I’m still tweaking the layout, fixing bugs and don’t really have any content up yet, but this is what I’ve been working on for the past month and a half:

    http://www.cityravers.com

It’s a blog, forums and social network for people into electronica music, built off the BP-Default layout. Keeping it low-key at the moment, but I’d love any thoughts or criticism. My first WordPress site, and the first site I’ve put up in years.

    Thanks!

When I was first attempting to make something like this, I spent a couple months trying to write it by hand. Then I discovered BuddyPress and realized most of what I wanted had been done already (and probably better than I ever could’ve done by myself), enabling me to spend more time focusing on the important things instead of building out core features. I’m still not entirely satisfied, but I’m getting there.

If you guys find any errors or encounter any problems, let me know.
Likewise, if you have any questions, I’m all ears.

I like your theme. Are you using a custom gallery plugin?

    Nice Site…
but i really got surprised for a moment when i saw 4,503,723 Facebook likes for a work in progress site :P

@Ekine I’m using the built-in WordPress gallery for posts, along with this plugin for the lightbox overlays: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-jquery-lightbox/

@mnasir79 Yeah, I just threw the code for the Facebook Platform’s page on it until I get my own up, heh.

I’m still cleaning up some sections of the theme. When all that’s done, I’ll start focusing on publishing some content and trying to build up a community. I’m still not entirely happy with how some of it looks (notably the activity and member profile pages), so if anyone has any suggestions or criticisms, I’d love to hear their thoughts.

I like it. How did you do the drop down menus on the groups, forums ect tabs. I like that.

All you need to do is just create a cascading menu and assign it as the primary navigation in the BP-Default theme. :D

I also incorporated one of the CSS patches from the Buddy Press Trac so the menus don’t entirely break in IE7/8.

EDIT: Just spent about an hour upgrading my bbPress themes to use the new table-less format of bbPress 2.1. Looks a lot better to boot.
