Hi im new here so go easy. I setup the latest versions wp and installed buddy press to my domain. If i put the url in for the domain the page comes up fine but if i try to go to any other page ie. members, registration all of them i just get page not found on this server. Does anyone know if there are any issues with these versions as im stumped, also no plugins are active at the moment as i reinstalled everything again but still the same problem

I have had the same issue today. I am using WordPress 3.2.1 and BuddyPress 1.5.1.

Just tried to check back to my site. I cannot login any more either as my own userid or as admin.

I just reinstalled manually tried to set everything up again sstill not working really dont know what to do everything ive read is its ready out of the box but nothing ive tried is working.

I tried those solutions on the reinstall last night, the problem seems to be I have no .htaccess file.

@philie go to admin dashboard menu Settings > Permalinks and set to other than the default permalink.

Also if i install just wordpress on its own without buddypress the links are not found either. Im uploading and installing straight to the webserver online if that makes sense, should i be doing this locally first then uploading it to the server?

It’s always a good idea to have a local version of an online site! – buit that’s a different issue…

The main `.htaccess` file should normally be in the same directory as `wp-config.php`

If it doesn’t change or get written when you ‘save permalinks’ it might be necessary to do it manually.

Normally WordPress tells you what needs to be written on the permalinks settings page…

Do i need a multisite install for this to work?

no… But buddypress doesn’t work properly with default permalinks…

Ok i tried to move the installation to its own subdirectory and now i cant access it, so my question is ive i reinstall it to a sub directory rather than the root will that be ok and get rid of the need to move everything?

I have everything set back up again but the .htaccess file is not there allthough i updated the permalink structure and it saved should I create one?

.htaccess may not be visible via FTP program unless you enable showing of “hidden” files. Morever, to double-check if you have one, go to webhost server’s cpanel/File Manager.

But going back to your original post, did you go through the Installation Wizard? If you did, have you checked admin menu > BuddyPress > Pages and check that all components are assigned Pages already?

I have the ftp program set to show hidden files i also checked the file manager on the control panel and its not there either allthough when i changed the permalinks structure it save it so i guess its there somewhere.
il go check if the pages are assignd.

I have assigned the pages and im still getting 404 page not found any suggestions.

Before installing BuddyPress, make sure that your pretty permalinks are working in your WordPress installation and that you can access your .htaccess file. Otherwise, please resolve these issues at WP forums first – https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
