@Svenl77 Tested it late last month. Aside from the similarity with Mingle plugin and with upcoming BP version 1.3 of rendering components as pages, WP Symposium still has some way to go before it can become a serious contender of BuddyPress which handles a full grown network of users and sites.
Having said that, the development of WP Symposium is coming along fast and looks like Simon Goodchild is meeting deadlines, so big kudos to him. Also, initial testing shows I can activate WP Symposium in each subsite (though a bit buggy in my install) so that’s a big plus for those who are looking for a social engine for each subsite. I can only surmise that if there were more devs helping Simon, it’ll be really cool plugin to use.
Just had a look. Seems to make it easy for users who have no programming skills. I wonder how easy it would be for a developer to bend it to ones will? I guess it can’t match BP in that area and for me that’s what counts, really.
I had a very brief look. It has the very big advantages of being easy to set up and integrate with one’s theme. It’ll be a nice choice for people who need something very quick and easy.
From a brief look, the code is written in such a way that doesn’t even make an attempt to be extensible for developers. In that sense it’s not even in the same league as BuddyPress.
I’m very glad to see that the market is fleshing out with fundamentally different kinds of solutions!
Hi, thanks for the replies, your answers are really close to my thougths.
It is a great solution, for those who wants to have a one click installation community, without thinking about developing or theming. Just Install the plugin, add the shortcode of the needed component in a page, and design it via backend options with colour picker and all the stuff normal not-dev-bloggers love.
