I see value to both “report this content” and “report this user” capabilities.

@nicolagreco, I would think it’s necessary for more than just the Wire. I can see it used on photos (when the feature is released), in Groups, on the Groups themselves (if a group is inappropriate), on the Wire, for the avatar…

I’m not going to be able to launch the community, or even show it to my administration, without some method of reporting. This is fairly critical for us. If I was forced to choose, I’d pick the “report this user” as it’s a more overall solution…but I’d really love to narrow the report feature to specific items.

I think you can get to them from the “Groups” link on the admin dashboard.

@egerrits I’m hugely interested. I’m absolutely looking for all the “simple touches” I can find to increase site activity once my socnet launches.

I’m a big fan of both of these ideas. #justsayin

Yeah, I saw that! It’s already installed, I just need to populate it :)

Well this issue has been handled beautifully, but (of course) now I’m getting requests for something slightly different.

My issue: current students, faculty, and staff will have an @school.edu domain email address, so I can restrict joining to just that domain using the built-in feature. However, our alumni do not have @school.edu emails because we only last semester got setup to give them permanent email addresses. ITS has offered to allow alumni to acquire @school.edu addresses, but we’d really like to cut out the middleman (and the additional step)and just send invitations out to their existing email. Is there a way to have both restrictions in place?

Rules: (1) anyone with a @school.edu email address can register without invitation code, (2) if they have an invitation (code, link, whatev) they can register using any email address.

Is such a thing even possible? Any plugin devs wanna tackle this issue?

Also, I would LOVE to be able to import a list of email address and have the system blast invitations to each one.

I do not need the ability to for users to send invitations to their friends.

I’m working on a higher ed implementation, but would be more than happy to share ideas and support.

Just out of curiosity, are there any consequences to be aware of if I choose to launch without blogs initially, and then allow my users to create them in the future? For my particular target I like the idea of having a guaranteed new feature release in my pocket.

Also, what happens to existing blogs if you turn off blog registrations? I assume nothing and that the admin can still create blogs. Just looking for a confirmation on that.

    down again?

Thanks for that. I just checked, there are indeed “tabs” (barely noticeable) when I try to edit my profile, and that info does show up on the public profile once populated. It’s not anywhere on the initial sign-up…is that by design? Is there a way to make the groups/fields available upon initial registration?

Update: I deleted the “state” field and tried it again. I got an error:

Warning: Wrong parameter count for fgetcsv() in /home/24396/domains/wearesau.net/html/wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-classes.php on line 288
