In reply to: TinyMCE for BuddyPress – works for 1.2 as well
Hi everyone. I think this is an issue with the JS in the new bp-default theme. I’ll have a look at it in the next week or so and post an update to the plugin.
In reply to: Plugin Devs Please ReadWhat does this do for backward compatibility of plugins? bp_init is new, right?
In reply to: Alternate Stylesheets for different sectionsYou could also just use body classes and put all styles in the same stylesheet.
In reply to: Plugin Release: BuddyPress Group WikisGreat job, David!
In reply to: Hints to debugHa ha, agreed, nexia. I always learn better when my questions are, you know, specific
In reply to: Removing Blog Posts form the SWA Widgetavim – I had to do something similar recently, and I came up with code along these lines. It’s not perfect (and might only work in 1.2) but it should give you an idea of how such a thing might be done by filtering the output of bp_has_activities:
function bp_remove_blogs_activity( $a, $activities ) {
foreach ( $activities->activities as $key => $activity ) {
if ( $activity->component == 'blogs' )
unset( $activities->activities[$key] );
}
/* Renumber the array keys to account for missing items */
$activities_new = array_values( $activities->activities );
$activities->activities = $activities_new;
return $activities;
}
add_action( 'bp_has_activities', 'bp_remove_blogs_activity', 10, 2 );In reply to: Hints to debugC’mon, nexia, everyone’s got to start somewhere.
nig3d, I gave a couple suggestions for how to learn more about the interiors of BP here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/set-activity-filter-to-specific-value#post-36194
As for debugging, you should get to know how to use tools like var_dump, which, when dropped into a piece of code, can give you a sense of where and why things are not going the way you expect.
In reply to: [Poll] Which development tools do you useTextWrangler for code
I mainly use Chrome developer tools instead of Firebug
Cyberduck for FTP/SFTP
phpMyAdmin for databases
I should get out more
In reply to: Privacy comments and blogsHm…I wonder if it’s because you have a language pack. On line 18, replace ‘blogs’ with your blogs slug and see if it works.
Still, if you’re the site admin and you’re still not seeing anything, then the problem must happen earlier. The very first thing the plugin does is test whether the logged in user is a site admin and if so just gives back the activity feed unfiltered. Have you tried with both admin and non-admin users?
In reply to: Editing Group and Forum page title tagsfunction my_page_title( $title, $b ) {
global $bp;
if ( $bp->current_action == 'forum' && $bp->action_variables[0] == 'topic' ) {
if ( bp_has_topic_posts() ) {
$topic_title = bp_get_the_topic_title();
$title .= ' | ' . $topic_title;
$title = str_replace( ' | Groups', '', $title );
}
}
return $title;
}
add_filter( 'bp_page_title', 'my_page_title', 10, 2 );Try that.
In reply to: GPL Question re upcoming plugin releaseRight, Travel-Junkie – the only restriction is that they have to respect GPL. So WPMU Dev can wrap up and sell any plugin they want, as long as the work continues to be under the original license.
In reply to: Editing Group and Forum page title tagsShould be easy to customize this the way you want it.
Put this in functions.php of your theme:
function my_page_title( $title, $b ) {
global $bp;
if ( $bp->current_action == 'forum' && $bp->action_variables[0] == 'topic' ) {
if ( bp_has_topic_posts() ) {
$topic_title = bp_get_the_topic_title();
$title .= ' | ' . $topic_title;
}
}
return $title;
}
add_filter( 'bp_page_title', 'my_page_title', 10, 2 );Obviously this might not be exactly what you want, but you should pretty easily be able to customize it to say whatever you want, for different kinds of pages.
In reply to: Privacy comments and blogsI don’t see that blog – as a matter of fact, I don’t see *any* new blog posts. Lots of blog comments, but no new posts. Weird?
In reply to: GPL Question re upcoming plugin releaseIANAL. But http://wiki.creativecommons.org/FAQ#Can_I_use_a_Creative_Commons_license_for_software.3F
I think (though IANAL!!) that CC licenses are generally more restrictive than the GNU under which WP is released. Because GNU licenses apply to derivative works, I think that applying a more restrictive license to a WP plugin would be a violation of the WP license.
In reply to: Privacy comments and blogsI’m playing with your site a little more and there seems to be a deeper problem. The filter dropdown menu at the upper right doesn’t seem to work. The Blog Posts filter shows activity content, Forum Replies shows new friendships, etc. Do you have any idea why that is? Does it work right when you don’t have my plugin installed? (I don’t see how the plugin could make this problem happen – it only touches activity items with component name ‘blogs’)
In reply to: Privacy comments and blogsHere’s what I see as a non-logged-in user: http://twitpic.com/12emv2
edit: wait, I’m an idiot, I wasn’t looking at the Blogs activity. Here’s what I see: http://twitpic.com/12encg

In reply to: mo file uploading broke my 1.2Chouf1 – In my (admittedly limited) sysadmin experience, I agree with DJPaul that 20mb is probably just too small to do what you want to do. (One of the first things I had to do when setting up a server recently was to increase the limit in php.ini) I don’t have exact numbers on WP memory usage (it’s so dependent on which page of WP you’re viewing, of course) but with every plugin or addon that is added, each request to the server gets heavier and heavier.
My guess is that l18n isn’t really the problem here – I don’t think that gettext has that much overhead. I think the problem is that WP + BP is bringing you so close to the PHP per-request memory limit that flipping on the MOs is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. The same thing would probably happen if you turned off l18n and started adding BP plugins, especially relatively hefty ones that add new components.
As for your host and Fantastico or whatever he provides for automatic installation: I’d wager that he provides it because it’s what the customer wants. Just because he gives you a way to install WP automatically doesn’t necessarily mean that the system is optimized for WP, and especially for WP + BP, which is a pretty resource intensive add-on.
No one knows yet what the minimum requirements for WP 3.0 will be, as the code is far from being finalized. But I can almost guarantee that you will need *at least* 32MB for PHP requests.
In reply to: Privacy comments and blogsThere are two ways of thinking about that, Erich. On one hand, insofar as the problem is mainly caused by a third-party plugin, there’s no real reason for it to be in the core. On the other hand, the core code is a little funny in that it doesn’t record private blog activity at all – IMO it’s better to record the activity and filter it out according to user roles. So something like what this plugin does might be appropriate for the core, but only the cases where privacy equals 0 or 1.
In reply to: Privacy comments and blogsJust wrote a plugin to solve the problem without core hacks: http://teleogistic.net/code/buddypress/bp-mpo-activity-filter/
In reply to: BP on subdomain and new blog registration URLWell, boone.com/register doesn’t exist at the moment, but I wonder if it would work to just move the registration templates from bp-default to my main blog’s theme directory and then do the redirect you just mentioned. Should work, as long as BP is activated sitewide. Hmmmm. Ill give it a try.
In reply to: Set activity filter to specific valueYou’re right that the codex doesn’t always keep pace with the code. If you find something wrong in the codex, please take the initiative to fix it.
When troubleshooting, the most surefire way to figure out (for example) which arguments a given function takes is to look at the definition of that function, where the core coders do a great job of documenting what goes in and out of the main functions. I believe that bp_has_activities is defined in bp-activity/bp-activity-templatetags.php, but you can always find where a function is defined by shelling into your buddypress plugin directory (or keeping a local copy on your hard drive) and typing something like the following from the command line (unix/mac):
grep -nR 'bp_has_activites' ./By scanning that list you should be able to find where the function is defined.
Another really great tool is the php xref http://bp-dev.org/phpxref/nav.html?_functions/index.html, but you should keep in mind that the version of BP cross referenced will not necessarily match your own.
In reply to: 404 on all forum pagesOK, that’s weird. I just double-checked the plugin situation, and it turns out that the problem was being caused by wpLicense, which allows blog owners to specify whether they’d like a CC license. Weird. I will check out the plugin code to see if I can spot the conflict.
In reply to: 404 on all forum pagesThanks, Ray. It’s there, appears to be complete, and is readable by apache. bb-config.php is also where it’s always been, and has all the right info. Dashboard > Forums Setup is telling me bbPress is set up correctly, but I reinstalled bbPress just for kicks, both as a new and an existing installation, and it’s still not working.
By “maybe I’ll get to it soon” I meant “I’ll use this as a way to procrastinate this afternoon”.
