    jeffca, I have not been able to reproduce what you are describing. I changed permalinks to just /%postname%/ from month/day/name and ajax still operates. Baffling.

    NetBeans is kinda brain dead when it comes to hooking up a local file system to a remote file system and transferring the edited files. I had to go browsing around the net looking for a solution but got one that allows a hot key combo like ctrl-u or whatever you assign to that action. (upload current file in editor)

    The other IDEs implement it much more sanely than NetBeans. It’s like an after thought in this one. It works but it’s certainly not an intuitive feature without a couple of extra setup/config steps.

    Plugins *don’t* work in the member theme if that’s what you are looking for. What are you looking for? :)

    The IDE approach helps alot with the ‘where is *that* thing’. Quick access to project files. Code completion. yada, yada.. Nothing that I can’t live without really. I’m just starting to try out debugging php web apps. I miss that kinda thing. Breakpoints, var inspection.

    I’ve tried Aptana PHP 1.0, NuSoft PhpED and now NetBeans. Aptana is plain broke in PHP 1.0 now. PhpED is good but costs. NetBeans seems good. They all have little differences that I got used to from one product to another. Somethings are easy and some are kinda buried somewhere.

    I really like hooking the IDE up to FTP and fixing something locally and just telling the IDE to upload the files I’m editing to the server. Cool.

    IDEs are certainly not necessary but helpful.

    Of course I’d like to see it John. I still haven’t looked at xprofile yet. :)

    Ya you did mention profile data getting to bbpress from bp for users without groups. I don’t see any reason not to do it. The privacy elements rely on the user having a list of their forums in the bb meta data that comes across from bp. No forums means no access. I’ll add that too since I’m now fooling around in that area. Gonna mean some changes to the import routine. I’ll work on it.

    function bp_activity_content_filter( $content, $date_recorded, $full_name, $insert_time = true, $filter_words = true, $filter_you = true )

    It’s in bp-activity-templatetags.php. Sitewide activity widget calls that for all content being displayed. It updates the ‘time since’ %s placeholder.

    That should be the spot to modify it like John suggested. He does pretty well with notepad++.

    “somwhere around line 151” is a pretty exact somewhere. :)

    I’m fooling around with NetBeans IDE 6.5. It has it’s moments of usefulness.

    John, I haven’t had time to even delve into the xprofile code yet. I’m going to start working on bbGroups again this evening. There are some ‘tags’ issues poping up I have to work on. If you’ve accomplished the xprofile fields being added I’d love to see how and add it to the plugin if you are so inclined to donate to the effort. If not then I can take a look at that. Let me know.

    Oh. I added the ‘editor’ role for the community blogs plugin as you suggested.

    bp is 1.0 release candidate 1 now. Out of beta and almost ready.

    You can use any wp plugin you want now in the home theme. Any wp theme you want for your blogs including the wpmu root blog. The member theme is a little different. I don’t know of a timeline for that. You’d have to get an answer from Andy.

    Chad. On the bp side that’s what it would say in the admin area if it’s working. You got back what it should show. Your installation and configuration passes a couple of tests.

    1) bp is talking to bbpress. Your configuration url, username and password were recognized by bbpress as valid. What it doesn’t check is the role that the user in bbpress plays. It has to be an ‘administrator’ role in bbpress to allow forum creation. Anything less will fail on the bp side with the usual cryptic error message. Make sure your ‘connection’ user has the proper role.

    2) xmlrpc is working between the two applications. This is good.

    What I don’t understand about your situation is that you say that the problem is intermittent. If it works once then it should work every time if nothing has changed in your configuration between posts.

    Are bp and bbpress installed on the same server? Asking to see if anything could interrupt the communications channel between the two.

    When testing posts, are you using the same or different users?

    When testing are you using the same group forum to test things?

    When testing do you create a group and have the ‘enable forums’ checkbox checked so that the group and the forum are created at the same time? Or do you go in afterward and enable the forum after group creation?

    OK. Thanks for getting back to me about the solution. I’m still kinda hazy on the problem. Glad you got it working.

    At the moment the bp widgets aren’t callable as template tags like the wp widgets. As far as I know you have to have a ‘sidebar’ region to activate the widgets. The problem is that the widgets you are talking about don’t parse arguments like your example above. We do need that. Gonna post an enhancement ticket to that effect.

    westpointer, I turned the red light off on this one. You seemed to have solved this. Nice job.

    I see that you changed your mind about leaving the admin bar on. In case you change it again, the ‘non hackey’ way to turn off the admin bar is in your bp-custom.php file (you got one even if you didn’t know it, create one, it gets loaded before all else in bp’s wakeup sequence) put this code:

    function oci_noadminbar(){

    remove_action( ‘wp_footer’, ‘bp_core_admin_bar’, 8 );

    remove_action( ‘admin_footer’, ‘bp_core_admin_bar’ );

    remove_action( ‘wp_head’, ‘bp_core_admin_bar_css’ );

    }

    add_action( ‘wp_head’, ‘oci_noadminbar’, 1 );

    add_action(‘admin_head’, ‘oci_noadminbar’, 1);

    In the time available to me I couldn’t ferret out where the backend css for the admin bar was enqueued. So we got a gap where it should be but no admin bar. ‘eh?

    John, hang in there. Been moving myself and my laptop to a diff town past 3 days. Getting setup again. I think I’m hooking the ‘xprofile_updated_profile’ action.

    …

    Yep. In 0.22. Should work. Lemme see exactly how much of ‘changing’ the profile that actually covers.

    modemlooper, I honestly can’t find any reason why this is failing in your case.

    @burtadsit

    Well, I can’t look at the same code you are running because I’m running RC-1 and the latest trunk. The global var $bp is not an array any more it’s an object now. Take a look at bp-core.php and the <component>_setup_globals() functions to get to know the new layout of this object. It’s got all the same things but we reference them differently now.

    It’s not a very good idea to be modifying the wpmu core code for any reason. That being said, I see where you are calling the fn from now. I still don’t know the context in which you are calling this function. This is within a theme you are building?

    I’m marking this a ‘not a support question’ because this really has nothing to do with bp support.

    Where are you calling this modified wp_query member function? In a theme? I gotta have some idea of the context. The wp_query obj doesn’t have a context all by itself. It can be called from anywhere.

    OK. You currently have mu installed in /<docroot>/musubdirectory and it’s configured for subdirectory blogs. Gotcha.

    Lemme go look at testbp.org and my install and see what’s going on. Can I get a link to your site please. I’ll try that first.

    It’s a bug in the css. Andy just committed a huge amount of bug fixes. Lemme go check them out to see if this is one of them.

    EDIT: Nope, but another forums user has a fix for this. See the ticket for details: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/535

    I don’t know how Andy would fix it but this works ok for me.

    @burtadsit

    Let’s start with how you have mu installed and configured. How do you have mu configured? As a subdomain or subdirectory install for new blogs? Do you have mu installed in a subdir under the document root?

    We need to figure out what your login link should be then why it isn’t what it should be.

    @burtadsit

    I’m not sure in what context the function is being called. You are saying this works in bp for you but not outside of bp? The call might be failing because the bp globals might not be fired up. bp’s plugins get loaded but bp relies on the ‘wp’ action to init the $bp global object which has all the table names and other goodies bp needs to operate.

    You are making the fn call from inside query.php inside of a wp theme context? Is this from an ajax context? If it’s ajax then bp doesn’t have any plugins loaded or global vars instantiated.

    Try doing this in an ajax context:

    wp-load.php like you are then

    wp();

    See Andy’s /bp-core/bp-core-ajax-handler.php for how he does this.

    chiscarter, John is exactly right. What a wonderful, brilliant idea John. If home.php exists in a theme directory it gets preference over index.php which is the ‘theme’ you are talking about Chris. It’s really a wp template. I tried it out and it works like a charm. Just disable the file home.php by renaming it home.php.off and voila! Instant bp blog theme instead of 3-column home theme.

    Bloody stroke of genius John.

    (still working on my international slang)

    chadfrancis, if all else fails you can try this and see if bp and bbpress *can* communicate with this tool. It just creates a xmlrpc link between bp and bbpress using your config settings on both sides. All it does is say ‘hello’ from bbpress to bp if the link works.

    http://ourcommoninterest.org/downloads/xmlrpc-test-rig.zip

    It’s a wpmu client plugin and a bbpress server plugin. All it does is use the settings found in site admin > bbpress forums and makes bbpress say ‘hello’.

    Uses the URL, username, and password. Authenticates them and says ‘hello’. It’s by no means pretty but it might help.
