    The purpose of that is to allow WP themes to run the bp directories such as member, groups and blogs. It has nothing to do with the member theme at all.

    What the themes are for:

    Let’s recap this modemlooper. You have running:

    – bp 1.0 RC-1

    – wpmu 2.7 release version not beta

    – You’ve tried using just the distributed home theme and member theme without plugins or other js using enhancements.

    – You say the permissions are 755 on that directory and file (bp-core-ajax-handler.php)

    What version PHP is on your server. You need PHP 5.x.

    oldskoo1, see this thread here for info about that: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1095

    Buried in there is a little 5 line plugin that allows you to redirect on login.

    Don’t really think so. People will want different levels of ‘integration’ for those two products. This is really a theme related issue. If the theme developer decides to do that then it gets done. I’m doing that on a theme I’m working on for bbpress. I want to have as much bp functionality as possible in bbpress.

    You can see the current state of chaos here: http://ourcommoninterest.org/bbpress

    login credentials for test user:

    username – hellome

    password – hellome

    The way I have it setup now is that when viewing a thread the user info block for each post has the bp avatar, user full name and underneath the bbpress title. The user full name takes you to the bp profile and the title takes you to the bbpress profile. Just fooling around with some ideas.

    No problem.

    “Other than that..” :)

    The other should work too. We’ll get it working. Andy is working on some major things in other areas. I have commitment from him to put me at the top of his list when he gets back from the development stratosphere.

    This issue is at the top of mine. Still trying to figure this out. This is an area where my skill set is close to zero in bp.

    Yep. Thought of moving the discussion to your thread but don’t know enough about the issue yet to say it’s related. The other two problems that were in your thread were not related to your problem. One had to do with links in email and a security mechanism the other was a permissions problem.

    We’ll see as the issue takes shape. (sigh) Where was that Sunday paper with the factory jobs in it?

    From this thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1223

    – If you upgrade from a previous version and are using your own custom theme, you will need to copy over the functions.php from the latest buddypress-home theme.

    Try that Keith. It may be the problem. That is an issue for *all* wp themes that take the place of bp’s home theme.

    @josswin, this is a known, recent issue with bp’s usage of a wpmu security mechanism.

    bp doesn’t really have a blog id in the member theme. So the problem is relative to what? bp references locations relative to the root blog, blog id 1 when it has to. This is to locate bp resources.

    From bp-core.php

    /* The domain for the root of the site where the main blog resides */

    $bp->root_domain = bp_core_get_root_domain();

    Whenever I refer to anything in bp I use absolute references. Relative references are just asking for trouble. IMHO.

    I can’t give you any help with javascript yet. I’m just moving into that area as I begin learning ajax.

    One more thing to try guy. Activate the standard out of the box home theme on your site and see if that makes a difference. Activate that and disable all plugins and bp enhancements. Just run the default home theme with nothing extra added.

    I don’t know why I didn’t suggest that earlier. Guess it’s because I’m a programmer and all solutions have to do with code. Hardware, operating systems and web servers are necessary evils that just have to be endured. :)

    Try that.

    Do your directories work? Members, Groups, Blogs? Or is this just the widgets?

    Is this a WP theme or a BP theme?

    Is this the standard out of the box home theme or a modified theme?

    Anything in your apache/php logs?

    You on a shared host?

    What version of BP and what version of WPMU?

    Activate the home theme distributed with bp. Disable all other wp plugins and bp enhancements. Try again.

    Can you point me to your site?

    @burtadsit

    Participant

    Ok. Thanks. Didn’t make any difference at all. Put everything back.

    I’m at a loss here guy. The only other suggestion I have to solve the 404 is to go into root and check the ownership and permissions of that directory and file. Can’t see ownership in an ftp client.

    I’ll ask some others to stop by this thread and take a look also.

    Here’s a scenario.

    I belong to a group on a site. I visit the group and I go right to the ‘Tags’ screen under ‘Forum’ in the group home.

    In the ‘Tags’ screen I see the following:

    TYPE: [All] [Recent] [Author] [Tagger] [Site] [Blog Post] [Forum Topic] [Image] [Wire Post] [Uncategorized]

    TAGS: [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B]

    [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B]

    [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B]

    [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B] [Tag A] [Tag B]

    YOU SELECTED: [Recent](x) [Tag A](x) [Tag B](x) – <CLEAR> <SUBSCRIBE TO THIS>

    VIEWING: 1 of XX … Page [1] [2] .. [99] [Next >>] SHOW AS: <List> <Grid>

    xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    yyy yyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyy yyy yyyyyyyy

    yyy yyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyy yyyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

    xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    yyy yyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyy yyy yyyyyyyy

    yyy yyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyy yyyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

    xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    yyy yyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyy yyy yyyyyyyy

    yyy yyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyy yyyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

    xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    yyy yyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyy yyy yyyyyyyy

    yyy yyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyy yyyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

    When I select one of the ‘Type’s which are meta tags for all tags I get a list/cloud of the tags that belong in that ‘type’. ‘All’/’Recent’ are the defaults.

    This is a neat user interface to a WP blog : http://www.swiss-miss.com/

    It’s got the ajax category/tag selection with list/grid selection for viewing. It would be a useful interface for this type of content.

    Content discovery is a filtering mechanism that narrows down the view for the user to what they want to see. Content should have top level organization of what?

    Content types:

    Website/Blog url

    Blog post

    Forum topic

    Image

    Wire post

    Anything with an url

    User interface to content. Sorting and filtering:

    By date: most recent, date range, ascending, descending

    By tag(s): and/or/not

    By content author

    By user who created the tag

    By type: blog post, site url, forum topic …

    Content display options:

    List

    Grid

    Titles only

    Title and excerpt

    When the user browses the content should they be able to add/remove tags for each item? Like bbpress? Only group staff can maintain tags?

    Questions, questions.

    @burtadsit

    Participant

    Is it a cloud? A list that the user can drill down into? Will tags be ‘and’ and ‘or’? Will the interface be like delicious?

    Tag A [x] Tag B [x]

    Shows all content with Tag A ‘and’ Tag B

    What I was talking about on irc nicola was when a user visits the group and wants to find group content what do they see? How do they find group content?

    Not private? No it’s a completely open site. It’s been an experimental development site up to this point. I’m rushing around trying to undo all the experimental stuff and turn it into a real website now. Have to do that to do support for plugins. :)

    It’s always going to be kind of unstable. I test alot of ideas there.

    modemlooper, can you disable all other js and plugins temporarily? Google analytics and that sharethis widget. Everything seems to be working, you are getting the correct results back to the browser from the ajax calls but the js in bp is not functioning after the call.

    You are getting results but not displaying them.

    @burtadsit

    Ya. Thanks. The letter search for members is the easiest to test. Saves on all the join/leave for groups or friendship requests. Thanks.

    When you use deep integration bbpress clears all the actions and filters. bp runs on actions. It does this as part of the load sequence.

    In bb-settings.php:

    /**
    * Remove filters and action that have been set by an included WordPress install
    */
    if ( defined( 'ABSPATH' ) ) {
    $wp_filter = array();
    $wp_actions = array();
    $merged_filters = array();
    $wp_current_filter = array();
    }

    When I’m using xmlrpc I have to manually fire up the bp globals I want to refer to like:

    function oci_bp_group_forums() {

    // only do this if the xmlrpc server is firing up and we are servicing a request
    if ( defined('XMLRPC_REQUEST') && XMLRPC_REQUEST ){
    // bp's globals don't get set until a 'wp' action occurs. this seems to be all that is needed.
    bp_core_setup_globals();
    groups_setup_globals();
    bp_activity_setup_globals();
    }
    }
    add_action('init','oci_bp_group_forums');

    That gets triggered by the end of the wp-load.php sequence. do_action(‘init’) is the last thing that happens there.

    bp gets woke up by listening to the ‘wp’ action. I think all of bp gets activated by ‘wp’.

    I just remember having some problems with xmlrpc and the ‘wp’ action so I manually tied things to the ‘init’ action. All the plugins for bp load, it’s lots of other stuff that gets initialized by ‘wp’.

    nicola has tinyMCE running on his site. I don’t remember if he has that as just a part of the theme or if it’s a plugin. Works great. Check it out at:

    ozpoker, this really isn’t the place to do support for the bbGroups plugin. This is for bp itself. Create an account on my site and join the group ‘CommonInterest Code’ I can help you out there.

    modemlooper, I just realized that you are running a modified members directory page. In the members directory the pagination action is being triggered and it’s getting back the correct response for that action. For instance going to page #2 of the member list. But it’s not getting displayed. More than likely it’s due to the structure of the page being different. The js that handles the response that comes back from the server doesn’t seem to know what to do with things now.

    Can you replace the current directory with the standard directory? We can try to narrow things down then.

    @burtadsit

    Ya had to say that didn’t you modemlooper? Glad it was fixed Chris. Sometimes that’s the way things go. I got to learn more about firebug and the friends component that I’ve successfully ignored until now. :)

    OK. Back to modemlooper now.
