I agree completely that we need some help text that guides the users. I like the idea of hooks that allow template authors and site admins to modify the text that is presented to a user. Or that add a ‘help’/’see here for details’ hook.

Andy is usually pretty good about adding filters and actions. He’s a filter and action happy kinda guy. :) If you gather up all the spots that need a help action or don’t have a filter already, I’m sure he’d be happy to add them.

Post your requirements in trac. Things like this in the forums just get lost in the general mayhem of it all.

Lemme go look at this. I was just in that area about a week ago.

(later) Works for me. Lots of u-umlaut chars going to and from bp group forums, to bbpress and back again. Showing up as proper u-umlaut chars. Andy just installed some fixes lately in this area. Try upgrading to the latest bp trunk.

The fixes include an upgrade to the buddypress-enable.php plugin that runs in bbpress. Don’t forget that.

There’s lots of different ways of doing this. You can create a plugin and then put your code in there. Call it from any wp page. You can also create a page template and put your code directly in the ‘search’ template. That’s probably what you are looking for.

    Start here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Pages#Creating_Your_Own_Page_Templates

The general idea is that all pages are created with a specific template. You create your own, probably by copying an existing page template and modifying it, and then create a page called ‘Search’ that uses that template. You build whatever functionality you want into the template.

Howdy. Your bbpress install is probably in a subdirectory under your document root. Looks like in /groupforum. In that subdir you put your bbpress .htaccess file that bbpress recommends for you. In your document root goes your wpmu .htaccess file that wpmu generates for you. bbpress doesn’t generate one. You have to copy/paste it to an editor and then put it in your bbpress install directory.

Lemme go take a look at this Trent.

(10 min later) Oh. I see what you mean. Going to look at how this little goodie works. :)

(15 min later than the previous later) Try this Trent. It seems to work:

add_action('template_redirect', 'members_only',1); On line number 662. Setting the priority to ‘1’ allows this plugin to sneak in before add_action( 'template_redirect', 'bp_core_do_catch_uri', 2 ); which lives at priority ‘2’.

bbPress needs an .htaccess file. Look in the backend under ‘settings’ > ‘pretty permalink type’ it provides a link to the file you need.

For those of you, like me, who didn’t know the proper protocol for accepting responsibility for a particular bug.

Assign it to yourself. Otherwise we have multiple people working on it. I went to ask Andy in irc a question about it and he says “You mean the one I just fixed?”.

Assign it to yourself. Otherwise you won’t be able to count coup on it. Andy is fast.

I’m looking at the caching that bbpress_live is doing and it’s using the wp_options table as a cache. huh? Maybe Sam knows something we don’t about the standard wp cache. I know that somethings aren’t fired up when an xmlrpc server gets instantiated. We’re using client xmlrpc services and wp is fully loaded and ready when we are using group forums. The wp cache should be avail. Gotta look further.

Got any input on this anyone? Why isn’t it using the wp object cache? I can make it do so but if there is some overriding reason then..

Members belong to a specific bp/mu site. If you have two mu installs then you have two independent membership groups. Never the two shall meet.

Users who are registered with blogA.yoursite.com do not have to be registered with blogB.yoursite.com. Blogs have independent membership lists as well.

Just because I’m a member of yoursite.com it doesn’t automatically give me any role in any blog on yoursite.com other than ‘subscriber’ to blog id 1.

This sounds like a wpmu config problem. Check to see that you have done all of the README.txt instructions to the letter. Leaving out nothing. Just because blog creation works doesn’t mean your config works. Apache has to be setup correctly.

Links. Need links to the live problem.

Lets try and see what’s common here. You both have:

    – Subdirectory installs of mu.

    – You both are running the bp home theme on blog id 1.

    – Attempts to run ‘members’, ‘news’, ‘groups’ or ‘blogs’ in the member or home theme results in a redirect to wp-signup.php.

    – You have the latest trunk versions of wpmu 2.7 and bp.

    Is this correct?

How about some links to your sites that we can look at and reproduce the problem.

    I’ll take https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/224

Clear forums cache when replying to a post.

Took a quick look and it seems that the cache is serving up a topic and it’s replies. The cache isn’t being updated when a reply is created. It serves up the topic and all it’s replies until it gets stale. Then it goes and gets fresh stuff.

I’ll take a look around at the other caching activity down in there too.

Speaking of caches. We got the same problem here. Post a new reply and you get served up the prev page without your new post. wp-super-cache? It doesn’t happen all the time. Just most of the time. :)

Oh ya, I don’t think these bugs you’ve listed are very ‘outstanding’ at all Andy. An really interesting bug would be:

“When I view my profile my washer and dryer quit working”. That would be outstanding!

Well, I’m looking at that spot in the code and don’t see any call to array_slice() at all there. Of course I’m looking at the latest svn trunk version. That spot in the code has been replaced by something else.

Update your installation to the latest svn trunk.

Anything is possible. There is a feature freeze until 1.0 is released. Fine idea though.

Andy loves these kinda posts. He doesn’t always get here to see them before they float off the main page though. The best thing is to put in a trac ticket with your find. It reminds him. https://trac.buddypress.org/newticket

Hey Trent! Thanks for this. I’m gonna fire up a developmentt server on the net that runs parallel to my production server. This is just what I needed to get started on that. This is why they pay you the big bucks. :)
