    I can’t find any tickets in Trac about this issue. Why don’t you start one? Make sure you describe your install environment clearly.

    This is about the trac ticket you posted. Can’t register again with same email address after deleting user. I’m just hunting you down since you might not read the comments on the ticket.

    That is a side effect of mu storing the users in wp_signups table and not getting rid of them from there when deleting a user. Don’t ask me why, it just does. If you want to re-use that email address you have to kill the appropriate rec in wp_signups.

    Check the error log. What does it say? A blank screen indicates some kind of php error.

    I thought I remembered something in trac about it…

    Mike the idea is that if I want to change the function of a menu item, I have to replace the menu item with something of my own. I want to change “My Account” on the bar and add a new item underneath entitled: “I Owe Mike How Much!?”. I have to replace the entire “My Account” menu item since the granularity of the actions are at the top level menu item only.

    I can slide new menu items in between existing items easily but that’s the way it has to happen for drop down items.

    I create a plugin that runs in /mu-plugins since I want this to run all the time for all users on all blogs. It’ll get run every page load.

    An example is replacing the bp logo image in the bar. Same technique for other menu items. The item gets rendered through the function:

    bp_adminbar_logo() in bp-core-adminbar.php

    This function gets registered in mu by us telling mu about this function and when to trigger it:

    add_action( ‘bp-adminbar-logo’, ‘bp_adminbar_logo’ ) at the bottom of bp-core-adminbar.php

    To replace the logo with our own logo or do something completely diff like just use the word ‘Home’, whatever we unregister the existing fn, register our own that replaces the old fn and does something different. Like below:

    function oci_adminbar_logo() {
    global $bp;
    echo '<a href="' . $bp['root_domain'] . '"><img id="admin-bar-logo" src="' . apply_filters( 'bp_admin_bar_logo_src', site_url( MUPLUGINDIR . '/common-interest/images/oci_home.gif' ) ) . '" alt="' . apply_filters( 'bp_admin_bar_logo_alt_text', __( 'BuddyPress', 'buddypress' ) ) . '" /></a>';
    }

    remove_action('bp-adminbar-logo','bp_adminbar_logo');
    add_action('bp-adminbar-logo','oci_adminbar_logo');

    The above says “don’t pay any more attention to the function bp_adminbar_logo() when the action ‘bp-adminbar-logo’ occurs, pay attention to my oci_adminbar_logo() fn and do that instead.

    You have to replace the *entire* menu item with something of your own. Clearer? No?

    There isn’t any way to change the blog avatar at the moment.

    OK. I just wouldn’t do anything with the code then. We don’t want to have everything stop working.

    You’ll have to talk to Andy about the 1.0+ feature set. AFAK this is the feature set for 1.0.

    Mornin’ wardeh! I’ve just started playing with the deep stuff. I’m gonna do some serious testing today. I can get mu and bp vars and bp functions. I just tried a couple of quick things.

    My setup is to put a couple of things into bb-config.php:

    $bb->WP_BB = true;
    if (file_exists('../wp-blog-header.php'))
    require_once('../wp-blog-header.php');
    else
    if (file_exists('../../wp-blog-header.php'))
    require_once('../../wp-blog-header.php');

    That’s it. Well ya gotta have user integration done. Cookies and sessions no. I changed stuff around so many times I just stopped doing the session integration. It’s not important now and evidently there are still major problems when going deep and sessions, nonces, cookies.

    I haven’t tried doing anything major yet. I’ve created my own little bbpressBar. Then I found this deep stuff. Gonna do it though. Some things like ‘blog authors’ wont translate to running on bbpress.

    This is gonna be fun. I found two plugins that I’m gonna adapt for getting group forums running better on bbpress. hidden-forums.php and read-only-forums.php and they look like they’ll work well with what I have in mind.

    I played around using get_header() and get_footer() on the bbpress side to load the mu header and footer for look-and-feel. I just dropped it. I’ve already got the forums looking and feeling kinda the way I want them.

    I just found out that this ‘deep integration’ stuff where you load mu in your bb-config.php actually works. Well, maybe. Evidently the actions and filters in mu are gone when you do this. I have access to all sorts of bp and mu goodies now.

    Gonna play. I’ll be awake for the next 2 or 3 days now. I should have access to all sorts of stuff from bp to get this forum issue out of the way.

    The only way to get skills above novice is to play. Just gotta accept that you will probably meltdown the neighborhood a couple of times. Welcome to the club.

    The widget defaults to newest members and the line should be:

    <?php $users = BP_Core_User::get_newest_users( $options ) ?>

    The edits I was talking about are in the reply above that begins with:

    “I should just learn to *really pay attention* when Andy drops in with a suggestion.”…

    You should try the plugin’s website. Might get more help there.

    Something is trashing your members widget javascript. Firebug shows that instead of js you have the entire page being loaded as js or it thinks that is the js for the member widget. You’ve got google analytics running. Try disabling that and see what happens.

    That happens after installing re-captcha. Don’t know why. Haven’t looked at it yet. re-captcha somewhow for some reason plays with the widths. I’m using the standard wp login form so it’s not as noticeable. Must be fooling with the css widths.

    All that commenting of code does is take out the bp fiddling with the from address. If everything goes according to plan and the phase of the moon is correct and you have mu configured correctly to use your selected email address and your host isn’t just blowing smoke at you, then it might work.

    What do the new email headers look like?

    @burtadsit

    root. login as root with telnet.

    Yep. You’re right gogoplata. It just ignores it. I set default_role to contributor and new user gets ‘no role’. Looked in mu Trac and the mu forums. Lots of confusion and noise over this issue. You’d think it would be simple, direct and unconfused by now. It isn’t.

    I see devs posting patches and reports in trac and donncha replying something to the effect of:

    ‘this is a patch to patch the patch for a bug in rXXXXX so that the bug patch can be fixed on fix #XXX on patch of the fix for #XXX’

    I’m just walking away from this one and if I had to care about this myself I’d do things your way. :)

    @gogoplata I still have no idea what that area Site Admin > Blogs > Edit is for. It’s confusing and I just ignore it. ‘default_role’ in options.php doesn’t do anything? Gotta go try it…

    If I were gonna do what you want to do I’d do something like this:

    // group_id, limit, page, exclude_admins_mods, exclude_banned
    $group = BP_Groups_Member::get_all_for_group( $group_id, false, false, false, false ) {
    if ( $group['members'] ) {
    foreach ( (array) $group['members']['user_id'] as $member ) {
    $user= new BP_Core_User($member);
    // do some formatting and display of this user obj
    // see: bp-core-classes.php, 'class BP_Core_User' for what's available

    // $user->avatar_thumb is html link to avatar
    // $user->user_link is html link to user full name
    }
    }

    I’m kinda hazy about the returned array from get_all_for_group(). It looks like it returns an array structured like this:

    array( ‘members’ => $members, ‘count’ => $total_member_count )

    Which means we need the $groups and it is actually composed of:

    array( ‘user_id’, ‘date_modified’)

    Which means we need:

    $group['members']['user_id'] (syntax?)

    As the foreach loop array.

    (sigh) Gotta be a better way but I don’t see any. I have no place to test this easily at the moment.

    Sorry to leave ya now but I’ve gotta get some sleep. Been going too long and not thinking straight. Somebody fresher than I will see this thread and lend a hand. It’s probably something simple and we’re too close to the problem.

    I’ll check back after a nap. That’s all I get these days is naps. :)
