In reply to: 1.6 timelines
@sooskriszta If i was a betting man, I’d put my money down on 1.5.6 being released to coincide with WordPress 3.4. I don’t think 1.6 will be quite ready by then and they will need a release to fix afew changes in WordPress.
But, then again – i don’t bet. Which is probably a good thing, because if i did, i’d be dead broke :p
In reply to: How do I remove the excerpt in activity?Either a custom functions plugin or your themes functions.php file.

What is a filter? https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Filter_ReferenceIn reply to: [Resolved] A Simple Link To The Users Profile Page@mrguythornton – Firstly, the mods are human too and do make mistakes, if they do mark it as resolved when your not confident that it is then just say so and @ one of them asking them to remove it. The mods are actually kind people (unless your a spammer). Also, not sure if your aware of this, but to mark a post as resolved the mods simply edit the title to say so – your welcome to remove it easily by clicking ‘edit topic’ and removing it. (if your the one who started the thread)
Anyways, now that that’s out of the way – “ is how you would get the URL to the loggedin user’s profile. (you’d have to code it deliberately though, i don’t think it’s easy to add it to WordPress’ custom menu.)
Something like this will (should?) work.
`<a href="”>Visit your Awesome Profile!`In reply to: How do I remove the excerpt in activity?I’d probably just filter it, telling it to forget what it was originally told to output.
add_filter (‘bp_blogs_activity_new_post_content’, ‘__return_false’);
(but, if you want the main activity stream to show the content, i’d wrap it in conditionals)
In reply to: Formatting Posts in Activity ScreenI recently posted this (about modifying the activity stream) that might help (assuming you know how to use WordPress filter hooks).
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/modify-output-of-activity-stream/Displayed userID:
bp_displayed_user_id();returns the user id for the user that is currently being displayed.In reply to: Blank pages@erinscot – Troubleshoot:
https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/blank-pages/In reply to: Change default sorting of Group membersAhh, sorry.
Theirs a codex entry for the Group members loop ( bp_group_members(); ) but theirs no type listed.
I’ll have a look at the code when i get home in afew hours to see where the ‘join date’ order is set, and see if we can filter it and modify it.
In reply to: Change default sorting of Group membersThe members loop has a type called ‘random’
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-members-loop/So you will want to change bp_has_members() within members/index.php to
“Sorry, missed your replies…
“Since we are speaking of tabs, how do I change places, for example: the subnav Edit from Profile tab to the Settings tab?”
bp_core_sort_subnav_items() should help.You can change how many posts show up from the user with `’posts_per_page’ => 10,` (i would tell you how to do pagination, but WordPress makes those things a pain in the butt when your not on a ‘wordpress’ page).
In reply to: SNIPPET: Intelligent post page templatesYou’re right! Thanks, edited the original post.
And Yes. It uses get_template_part which using the BP Albums example again, will search for the following templates and php require() the first it finds. In this priority.
child-theme/entry-bp-album-picture.php
child-theme/entry.php
parent-theme/entry-bp-album-picture.php
parent-theme/entry.phpIn reply to: modify contents/display of individual activitiesYou can either filter the actions directly, for activity_updates theirs the ‘bp_activity_new_update_action’ filter.
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.5/bp-activity/bp-activity-functions.php#L879
New_Member = bp_core_activity_registered_member_action
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.5/bp-members/bp-members-signup.php#L534New_blog_post = bp_blogs_activity_new_post_action
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.5/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-functions.php#L195etc.
Or; you can filter the templates – with ‘bp_get_activity_action’ (best if you don’t need to edit the output directly but want to add a line break after every action. etc)
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.5/bp-activity/bp-activity-template.php#L10561. WordPress (without BP) only has three required fields for members – username, email and password. On the BuddyPress registration form these are required fields. it also requires a name and any other required fields you choose to add to the base group.
2. The best place to find documentation is within the code. Not exactly what you wanted to hear, but theirs not really anything as in-depth as you can find within the comments scattered throughout it.
In reply to: Buddypress updatesWhen a major release (such as 3.4) of WordPress is released you should be wary of updating WordPress if BuddyPress has not been updated yet as their are usually major changes.
When WordPress releases Minor releases (such as 3.3.2) it’s very rare that their will be any breakages as they are primarily used to repair bugs and fix security issues.
I personally wait an hour or two after a minor release for the core devs to do some last minute testing before i upgrade my sites (the BP devs are pretty quick to get a release out if something does break.)
In reply to: Removing all members countThe function used to return it is bp_get_total_member_count() located within bp-core/bp-core-template.php. We can filter it to return nothing with:
add_filter (‘bp_get_total_member_count’, ‘__return_false’);
In reply to: buddypress auction theme?I don’t believe their are any specifically for BuddyPress, however any WordPress theme can be transformed into a BuddyPress theme with the BP Template pack (1) and their are afew WordPress themes around. Including AuctionPress (2), and Sitemile Auctions (3).
1. https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
2. http://www.premiumpress.com/auctiontheme/
3. http://sitemile.com/products/wordpress-auction-reverse-auction-theme/In reply to: Security updates in BuddyPress 1.5@d3v4 – A detailed list of security updates other than searching through the changelog at what was changed is non-existent to protect those who for whatever reason is unable to upgrade straight away.
In reply to: buddypress with wp super cache@vnmember Can’t help with Super Cache, but others have spoken about how to get W3 Total Cache working with BuddyPress over here: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/configuring-w3-total-cache-with-buddypress/
In reply to: Mobile for BP.and multisiteNot sure if its Multisite compatible, but have you tried BP Mobile?
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-mobile/In reply to: Any one Knows about fotobook plugin?@ashokgolusu – BP Albums 2.0 (Renamed to BP Media) is supposed to include that feature but it is still in a WIP (works in progress) state.
In reply to: Inactive vs blocked in new user roleI believe those are actually from BBpress. But, i could be wrong.
In reply to: Loading A List of GroupsSure, the group data is within the {prefix}bp_groups table, though doing so is at your own risk (make sure you know what your doing) messing with stuff directly within phpmyadmin is never a smart idea and should only be done after all other options are exhausted.
In reply to: Loading A List of Groups@licomic – Could you clarify what you mean by ‘bulk load’?
If you mean importing a large list of groups into BuddyPress, i don’t think their is a plugin that provides it currently.
However, you could achieve it by grabbing the list of groups and foreach of the items you could run through the groups_create_group() function… http://phpxref.ftwr.co.uk/buddypress/_functions/groups_create_group.html
In reply to: Any one Knows about fotobook plugin?Theirs afew awesome ones around. Two comes to mind. Their’s BP Albums – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-album/ and theirs also BP Gallery http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/ Both (in my experience) provide outstanding support.
In reply to: Any one Knows about fotobook plugin?@ashokgolusu as Fotobook is a WordPress plugin and doesn’t interact with BuddyPress specifically, you might get a better response from the WordPress forums – https://wordpress.org/tags/fotobook?forum_id=10
In reply to: Collapsing activity post comments?It should work…
The comment collapsing stuff is around line 1387 of global.js if you want to play around with it. try lowering the number a little (maybe 2?) and see if it works
note that it doesn’t factor in 2nd level comments (comment replies) yet – https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2587 – so if you have 100 replies to a comment, then it will show all of thoes replies.
