did anyone know a better solution for this in BP 2.0.

The above code is still working but it is not ajax. you have to reload the page to see the count.

The notification types in BP core are:

‘new_at_mention’

‘friendship_request’

‘friendship_accepted’

‘new_membership_request’

‘membership_request_accepted’

‘membership_request_rejected’

‘member_promoted_to_admin’

‘member_promoted_to_mod’

‘group_invite’

‘new_message’

I’ve done something approaching in another plugin :bp code snippets, where it’s possible to add snippet from the front end in forum posts. To do so you need to use shortcode api, a custom request then on the button click use jQuery to paste the shortcode in the textarea. The shortcode will look like [you-identifier…[Read more]
