@martohar could be a theme issue or conflict with another plugin. Check the following first
1. Go to wp-admin > Settings > BuddyPress – Components tab and make sure that

Thanks for the link @tenaciousblindgirl but in this case more than shortcodes, we should need some specific hooks to attach our functions via add_filter or add_action.

you need to debug a bit, try deactivating plugins and change themes to verify those are not causing the problem.
