First of all, I want to thank you all for your help. Sometimes I feel like I am writing to myself when I ask questions here. I am very grateful to have gotten so many responses and such good help!

    r-a-y,

I will check into that option. I had used widget logic and one point for another issue, but I never thought about it in this context.

    Andrea_r,

I did make a new page and apply that template. That’s why I don’t understand it not working!

    Bowe,

I will try your option and see if I can get it working. Does your blog sidebar not show at all? And if it doesn’t show, what is showing in that space, no sidebar and just a wider content section?

For anyone that runs across the problem. I never got any response from anyone here so I found an Ajax login plugin that is working beautifully as a workaround. I’m also not having any issues with spambot fake registrations this way either.

    Two,

    Good Morning!

Do you mind sharing which plugin it was that was causing the error.

    Freakinglogan,

That’s a great looking site you’ve got there. I noticed that you got some javascript popup to work for your registration. How did you resolve this?

@Meerblickzimmer, I am having the same problem and I have checked almost everything that I know could be a problem. I have two installs and the test install has the registration page working perfectly and the live site simply will not display the register page or the registration text on the sidebar no matter what I do.

    Here’s the test site:

    Final Update:

    r-a-y,

Thank you for your help. I couldn’t have gotten through this without you.

Secondly, for future reference for anyone that encounters this issue in the future. You may not have to reformat or restore or putz with your database. For my particular install, this was an issue of Category and Tag conflicts.

I starting this blog with tags denoting certain regions and counties in New Jersey. I later changed the organizational structure so that all my counties were in sub categories under regions of the state. I had never removed those original duplications. When I upgraded the install something caused the database to throw some weird issues. I also had a member that had begun to sneak in region and category tags in her listings that I had not caught.

There were also group tags that had the same region and county names in the database. This caused a triple instance of the same word in the database that I had not told the database how to deal with.

The solution for me came when I got the idea to remove all the instances of regions and counties in the tags. I then reorganized the categories. I set up a structure like so: Regions > Region name (North/Central/South) > County name (Atlantic…/Warren). This solved the conflict issue in the main blog and in the member sections.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

    Peace!

… Now onto the next challenge.

    Update:

I just found another possible culprit/conflict. In BP member profiles, any words that could become tags that relate members to each other become links. These links might be causing some conflicts in the database because they are not displaying. For instance, I have an Essex County Category that is not displaying and a Essex County link that is not displaying in a buddypress profile. The Essex County Category sends you to the homepage when you click on it and the Essex County profile link sends you to the Members Listing Page.

Ray, Good Morning. Thank you for sharing your experience with a similar issue.

Unfortunately, I think that your problem might relate to mine. I shut down the site completely to do the MU install and I used Ron’s Advanced Import Tool/Widget. I thought all the categories were imported and working fine until this last BP update. Something in that update made my category structure go all pear shaped.

I guess I’ll have to spend some time over in the MU forums. I think this relates to BP too since the update seems to have changed the way categories are changed or shown. Specifically, the category slugs cannot be edited anymore. [at least that I can find]

I hardly know where to start to find the problem in the database.

    Update:

I got all the categories to show by reverting the install to list all permalinks in the default format. This is not good for SEO or good looking urls but at least half my categories aren’t missing.

I tried this fix: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/328469?replies=3 and I got nothing but errors.

I’ve also turned off WP SuperCache to see if this will help.

    Hi Ray,

Thanks for answering. Yes, I initially had a WP install, that I upgraded to WPMU and then added BP. I did however completely shut down the original WP install to do a clean MU install.

    Update,

I am testing all of my plugins for conflicts and I have changed the category slug back to category rather than topics as noted before.

    This category page is showing:

    http://bestofnj.com/category/events-in-nj/summer-events/august-events/august-5/

    This category page is missing:

    http://bestofnj.com/category/north-jersey/

I’m also testing the BP Contents plugin, but I haven’t been able to get it working yet.

    Karto, thank you X3.

The % change worked for the group page.

I found the devil in the details here. On the buddypress tutorial page it does not mention that you need to copy and upload the reset.css file into your child theme. Once I did that it fixed the spacing and the bullet point errors in IE8 and in Firefox.

Karto, do you mean change it to 94%? It’s at 100% now. And do you have any idea what is causing the bullet points or dots?

    Hi all,

Do you know if this problem was fixed with subsequent releases? My install is still behaving like this. All members seem to get their roles automatically set to subscriber even though I have the default role set to contributor.

Why can’t we just add a quiz question that has to be read by human eyes to be answered. I use that with Contact Form 7 and it works perfectly. How do I add that to register php?

    David,

Thank you for that solution. It was brilliant and simple!

    @ Nightlyfe,

The Group Calendar plugin integrates well but doesn’t do what I need it to.

I’m testing the plugin and it’s got some severe limitations. It cannot handle recurring events and I can’t get it working globally. I am also testing Events Manager 2.0rc2. It seems much more capable of complex functions and display.
