Thanks, jivany!
Do you happen to know about this other problem I am having?
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/problems-with-active-state-menu-for-homepageactivity
Found the solution!
I deactivated all the plugins, and re-activated one at the time, the usual debug check.
It turned out to be the “Different Posts Per Pages” plugin.
Uuuf!
I tried to activate the default theme: same result. Activity stream as frontpage shows all the static WP Pages content.
I need to get it fix!
@jivany By all WP pages I mean that when I set Activity stream as front page, the front page displays a loop with all the content from all the WP pages, published and draft.
I am telling you, that is a very bad bug I am having there. So, forced to put the old homepage up instead of the Activity stream.
If you (or anybody else) need to see the result, just drop me a private message (or post here) and I’ll be putting the Activity stream up as front page, to show the result. I can’t keep it that way the whole day because would make me sick to know what it looks like.

Thanks for the help.
Ok, nobody on this one?
Why setting Activity stream in Settings > Reading gets all the WP pages instead of, well, activity streams?
Anyone?
I did switch to the old homepage while I get the fix.
Anybody to help me with this?
It actually displays ALL the pages on the homepage. Where’s the catch?
I need to sort this out as soon as possible. The homepage is just a mess. Can’t get it right.
How is it possible that at some point I got the Activity stream to display on the homepge, and now setting Front page to Activity stream again displays this nonsense?
@r-a-y Thanks for the good explaination.
@el_terko good to know you like The Cure, and thanks you for the positive feedback.
See, guys, the problem I am having here is that I would like to test the child theme option, but I am experiencing all kind of weird things.
For a start, with the intention of testing the new theme, I did the following:
1) Duplicated the original theme, called “cureuphoria” (the one with the BP Template Pack stuff)
2) Called the theme “childtheme”.
3) In “style.css” I put: Template: bp-default, to make it a child theme of the BP default
4) Because now “childtheme” got all the folder and files as the bp-default theme (from the BP template pack) I intentionally deleted the “activity-loop.php” file from the activity folder, in order to test that the child theme inherit properly from the default theme (and if it does I would delete the rest of the files that can be inherit).
5) Installed the User Theme plugin (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-theme/) so that I can test the child theme while keeping the “cureuphoria” theme active (it allows you to switch theme for a particular user only, me).
Strange thing is, if I see the site with the user I set in the User Theme plugin, the activity page doesn’t have the loop (it doesn’t inherit it), and the layout is styled by the “bp.css” stylesheet, which I use to syle the BP components.
BUT: whenever I try to ACTIVATE the “childtheme” for real, on the live site, the loop is there (so id does inherit from the default theme), but “bp.css” doesn’t seem to be active. All the styles are gone.
In Firebug I see that there are several stylesheets that I don’t know where they come from called activity (I think 1, 2, 3, or something) and some part of the header background comes from the default theme style.
In CSS Edit I see there is a “bp.css” and when I export it, there is HTML in it. Not CSS.
It just get crazy!
Oh, and I deactivated the BP Template Pack to avoid conflicts.
I’m a little lost. Of from the child theme styelcheet I don’t link any of the deault theme styles, they shouldn’t get in the way, right? And why my “bp.css” file got no effect at all? I call it from the header.php as an external file.
Oh, AND: all the INCLUDES are broken and I got many for calling several widgets:
Example:
<?php include (TEMPLATEPATH . "/inc/curemates-bar.php"); ?>I changed it to something like this, thinking that in buddypress it needs to be that way:
<?php locate_template( array( 'inc/curemates-bar.php' ), true ) ?>But if I am not wrong I got the same function errors.
Well, what do you think it’s the best way to test a child theme, get things to work properly work as they should?
Sorry for the long post, I tried to keep it as breif as I could, without leaving anything out that may help get the picture.
Thanks for your advises.
In reply to: Override BuddyPress Template Pack CSS1 .Keep hte BP template pack active.
2. Go to Apperance / BP Compatibility and select “Disable BP Template Pack CSS”
Now, you can use your own stylesheet.
I suggest you copy the “bp.css” from the “bp-template-pack plugin” into your theme, and modify it, if you don’t want to override it.
That’s what I did.
Hope it helps.
Ok, the above code from Brajesh Singh, worked fine. Thanks a lot Brajesh!
DJPaul, I created a ticket for the fix: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2285
@Matt Thanks, I appreciate the suggestions.
About the clearing of the fields it’s somethng I planned to do, but didn’t think about the registration login form after the activation of an account.
Otherwise, I’m glad you’re a Cure fan! It’s cool you registered to the site.
In reply to: Profile fields (drop down) problem with apostropheOk, DJPaul, I just did: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2283
I need to fix this.
I noticed that now Tweetstream adds a litle icon to post generated from Twitter and the image path to that icon image is broken too.
And I can’t afford not to have broken images within Album+!
I got WP in a subfolder and the images from plugins stuff are broken because they don’t find the right path due to a function I need to have in “bp-custom.php”, that allows me to have permalinks such as mysite.com/activity, instead of mysite.com/subfolder/activity.
This is the code:
function my_bp_override_core_domain() {
$domain = get_bloginfo('url');
return $domain;
}
add_filter('bp_core_get_root_domain','my_bp_override_core_domain');What’s the best solution, knowing that I need to keep permalinks structure without the “subfolder”?
Should I write other functions per plugin to indicate the correct path (with “subfolder”)?
And what this code would be?
@r-a-y unfortunately the above code didn’t work for me.
Please help me with this.
In reply to: Profile Fields Questionsjivany, thanks a lot for taking an interest in this. I appreciate.
I eventually ended up re-arranging things to have the best with what BP provides (limitations?).
But I will test the above code and see if I get want I wanted.
I’ll report later.
Thanks.
In reply to: Profile Fields QuestionsIt’s really just tjis that I need for problem #1:
<?php if (custom_xprofile('About me') ) : ?>
<h3>About me:</h3>
<?php custom_xprofile('About me'); ?>
<?php endif; ?>
If the About me field is filled, it should display
<h3>About me:</h3>if it is not filled in, it shouldn’t display the h3 heading.
And with the above snippet, it always displays it. It’s the conditional statement that I cannot get right.
In reply to: Profile Fields QuestionsAnd another thing I am trying know (Question #2) is if it is possible to use a conditional statement to check if more than 1 group has fileds that has been filled in and return something accordingly:
<?php if ( bp_has_profile('profile_group_id=9') || bp_has_profile('profile_group_id=7') ) : ?>
<?php while ( bp_profile_groups() ) : bp_the_profile_group(); if ( bp_profile_group_has_fields() ): //groups loop ?>
<div id="widget1">
(stuff from group 9)
(stuff from group 7)
</div>
<?php endif; endwhile; ?>
<?php endif; ?>After experimenting, I couldn’t make it work.
I need that because in my design I’d like to output a “Personal stuff” widget that has a graphic title and background, and it should display only if some fields from groups 9 and 7 are filles in, otherwise it should’t.
Is that achievable?
That is a guru question, isn’t it?
In reply to: Profile Fields QuestionsThanks jivany. I corrected that.
However, that is not the source of the porblem.
I am trying to achieve different things.
One is to say, if that field is not filled in, don’t output this block.
Something like:
<?php if (custom_xprofile('About me') ) : ?>
<h3>About me:</h3>
<?php custom_xprofile('About me'); ?>
<?php endif; ?>
But as simple as it is, sometimes I am lost on PHP basics.
In reply to: HTML & CSS questionWell, a list item can contain paragraphs. Lists are often used for structuring blocks of content, not only for bullet points lists.
That said, if the p tag is not in the template file, than it is generated from some function. Which approach I don’t agree with. tags should be in tempalte files, so that one can change them or delete them as they like.
When are self-generated from functions in core stuff, they just become a pain in the ass to deal with. You than have to do some CSS to change their attributes in order to let them to what you want to, or don’t let them do what they are supposed to.
Well, first of all you should get things working, without getting any errors. And about that I don’t have any clue on how to fix it. And once everything works properly, then you can think about the pages to style.
The list I provided is the list of files that need to be changed to match your WP layout structure, with the header, content, sidebar, footer.
Assuming you installed the “bp-template-pack”, here they are:
Template Files (generating web pages):
1) activity/index.php
2) members/index.php
3) members/single/home.php
4) members/single/activity/permalink.php
5) members/single/plugins.php
6) groups/index.php
7) groups/create.php
groups/single/home.php9) groups/single/plugins.php
10) forums/index.php
11) registration/register.php
If you are going to install Album+ plugin:
– wp-content/plugins/bp-album/includes/templates/album/single.php
– wp-content/plugins/bp-album/includes/templates/pictures.php
One thing that the code doesn’t do is turning off auto links for url’s.
I want members to fill some fields with their personal social profiles links: Facebook, Twitter, Personal Homepage.
I’d like to link it from the words: “Facebook”, “Twitter”, “Personal Homepage”, without having http://facebook.com/user, ect.
Now, I tried something like this within the profile fields loop:
<li><a href="<?php echo bp_the_profile_field_value() ?>"><?php bp_the_profile_field_name() ?></a></li>But of course it messes everything up because the function “bp_the_profile_field_value()” generates a
<a href="...">itself.Is there a workaround for this?
Ok, thanks for the help, r-a-y.
The code worked great!
And sorry, I didn’t mean to bump similar threads. To me one was about “managing” auto links the other was to “turn them off”. But I’ll make sure to pay attention to that in the future. Thanks.
Experiencing the same thing, with some words auto linkik and some not.
Is there a way to control those auto links?
And… tha above code to turn auto links off is not working for me. Is it still valid?
In reply to: How to get rid of autolinking on profile fieldsI’d like to remove auto links for profile fields. I retrieve their values and dispaly it on a sidebar, but don’t find any use in linking any word to nothing.
That is really an annoying feauture that should be turned on and off at will.
The above code doesn’t seem to work anymore with the latest version of BP.
Is there a way to turn auto links off?
