Oh, yeah, I see what you mean.
That is the cheating way to achieve that. I’d go back to before the function thing, and change “site” with “curemates”.
I may try that (yeah, backing up everything first). But isn’t there another way? Is evrybody running BP as a MAIN site rather than a subsection of a “regular” site?
I marked this as solved.
Should I go and make another topic with the other request?
Ok r-a-y, that actually worked like a charm!
I thought that it was kind of a ridirect, but even when you mouse hover on links you don’t see the subfolder at all in status bar.
That is so cool. Thanks a lot!
Now, what about the other thing? Having CureMates so that users knows where they are?
I very much appreciate your help.
Hey r-a-y, thanks for replying and taking an interest in this.
I will try the function out and let you know.
As for the running BP in CureMates, I mean that since the whole site exists on its own, pages and blog, and I want to run the BP part as a SECTION of the existing site.
So, that the site goes like this:
cureuphoria.com
cureuphoria.com/blog
cureuphoria.com/links
[…]
cureuphoria.com/curemates
cureuphoria.com/curemates/activity
cureuphoria.com/curemates/members
Those are the BP components for the “social network” section of the site. Called CureMates.
Mmh… does that make sense. If so, is it possible?
Nobody else interested in sorting this out?
Ok, this worked for me (I hope it fixes evrybody else):
Go to Settings -> Miscellaneous Settings
Set “Store uploads in this folder” to “wp-content/uploads”.
Set “Full URL path to files” to the REAL FULL PATH of your uploads.
Then change bp-core-avatars.php line 389:
Replace:
if ( !$path = get_option( ‘upload_path’ ) )
$path = WP_CONTENT_DIR . ‘/uploads’;
With:
if ( !$path = get_option( ‘upload_path’ ) )
$path = WP_CONTENT_DIR . ‘/uploads’;
else $path = ABSPATH . $path;
It fixes the problem.

So, no news about this?
I just realize that there is a mistake in my original post, about the WP Settings configuration.
Here’s a real life example.
The site I am working on is Cureuhoria.com (existing WP single 2.9.2).
The BP installation serve for a social network section, called CureMates.
WP is installed in a subfolder called site.
Everything works fine.
The problem is that whenever you are in BP components (CureMates section), and you navigate within BP components, you get URLs/permalinks with the subfolder in it: cureuphoria.com/site/activity
I just want http://cureuphoria.com/activity
WP settings actually are:
Site URL: http://cureuphoria/site/
BLog URL: http://cureuphoria.com
Is it possible (create a function or something) to tell BP to refer to the Blog URL and not to the Site URL, so that URLs/permalinks are consistent within the whole site?
Ideally (but maybe that is asking too much) I’d like to run BP components from a folder called CureMates, so that URLs/permalinks are:
http://cureuphoria.com/curemates/activity
http://cureuphoria.com/curemates/members
…and so on…
Which would make the most sense and it’d be clear and clean for the user to know where they are.
Am I the only one wanting something like that?
Is that an impossible task to achieve?
I feel some hints may be in the fuctions I listed above, but I just am not at the level of knowledge to play with this.
Does anyone?
David, actually I don’t have MU installed, just regulat WP single…
I actually got the bp-template-pack installed for integration into an existing WP theme. Also have bbPress installed and running.
The site I am working on is http://cureuphoria.com/activity
Thanks Andy.
Tried Group Avatar, just in case. Same proble as for profiles.
I got the same exact problem.
WP 2.9.2
BP 1.2.2.1
…too!
Any help is appreciate. It’s not cool when a memeber try to upload his/her picture and it just doesn’t work.
In reply to: Does it make sense to have BBpress AND BuddyPress?Thanks for the info, r-a-y. I’ll go ahead and read all this…
Well, putting the files out of the subdirectory is not a solution. That is not having the problem in the first place. Not the same thing, really.
Thanks, r-a-y.
I have to admit that I wouldn’t know how to apply such a filter. I am sure it’s something basic, but it’s just not something I use to do. Could you share an example?
Also, I am not sure what you mean that it wouldn’t fix the activity stream. Do you mean that for that component I will still get mysite/folder/activity?
Otherwise, as you suspect too, I am sure there must be a CLEAN way of telling BP that everything is in “folder” but not to output that. Maybe a funfcion to put in function.php, so that the core BP installation is not modified and you don’t need to edit the core files everytime you update.
Any thoughts?
PS: it seems like others are scratching their heads off the same topic:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/404-errors-when-installing-bp-with-wp-in-a-subdirectory
Where are the gurus on this?
Andy? Andrea? Anyone?
…
I can’t believe that such a problem is not discussed to the point of being already solved.
I am sure that there are so many people who got wp installed in a subdirectory.
Two days ago I wrote an in-depth topic about just that. Please read it here.
It was TOTALLY ignored by the community.
I don’t care if it is the discussed here or there, as long as IT IS discussed, and not ignored.
Really, is there only 3-4 people with wp in a subdirectory and don’t want a permalink configuration such as: mywebsite.com/wordpress/activity?
C’mon…
(Oh, by the way my site does work with that setup, I just don’t want the subfolder in the permalinks, and yes, that represent a big issue for me).
In reply to: BuddyPress Template PackI am not totally comfortable with changing stuff in core files, without some guru out there telling me what to do, but is it possible that to solve the issue one needs to customize bp-core.php?
These particular lines grabbed my attention. Again, I am not going to play with it, before any good advise.
Line 95:
/* The domain for the root of the site where the main blog resides */
$bp->root_domain = bp_core_get_root_domain();
Line 608:
/**
* bp_core_get_root_domain()
*
* Returns the domain for the root blog.
* eg: http://domain.com/ OR https://domain.com
*
* @package BuddyPress Core
* @uses get_blog_option() WordPress function to fetch blog meta.
* @return $domain The domain URL for the blog.
*/
function bp_core_get_root_domain() {
global $current_blog;
if ( defined( ‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’ ) )
$domain = get_blog_option( $current_blog->blog_id, ‘siteurl’ );
else
$domain = get_blog_option( BP_ROOT_BLOG, ‘siteurl’ );
return apply_filters( ‘bp_core_get_root_domain’, $domain );
}
Honestly I don’t remember anymore. If that is the case, I didn’t copy the list for further reference when I was going to layout things for intagration. So, if anybody is like me, the list still comes useful somehow after the installation.
Anyway, that was my little contribution to proper documentation.
In reply to: New theme framework and exisiting WP themesOk, so “functions.php” in the “bp-sn-parent” (which will be a child of WP Thme”) is one of those files that you don’t delete toghether with “header.php”, “footer.php”, index.php” (reduntants of the parent theme).
Thanks for the clarification.
In reply to: New theme framework and exisiting WP themesI got a question about the “functions.php” file that is “bp-sn-parent”.
I am trying to make yor approach of having the “WP Theme” as parent and the stripped out “bp-sn-parent” as a child.
You said:
The child theme will be the BP theme framework, but without the redundant files ( header, footer, archives, index, etc).
What am I supposed to do with functions.php? I guess it holds a lot of stuff needed by BP to function. I tried to copy/paste the whole code from functions.php in BP theme to functions.php in WP Theme: I got a blank page. No error messages displayed, just broke.
Well, just wanted to know about the use and the place of “functions.php” in BP and what I am supposed to do with it, if I follow your way.
Thanks in advance for insights.
In reply to: WordPress Theme with BP 1.1You’re welcome porceon.
Let me know how it goes, and don’t heistate to post your experiencies here.
As I told you I didn’t get to finish integrating, and I’ve to put in on hold, while I am working on someting else. So your experiments with this way of integration may turn helpful.
Cheers.
In reply to: WordPress Theme with BP 1.1A lot about what you’re trying to achive is said here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/new-theme-framework-and-exisiting-wp-themes
Otherwise, I myself am trying to get a step by step procedure to integrate BuddyPress as a section of a “normal” website, that is not full BuddyPress based.
So far, form my experiments with theaming and integrating I can say:
1) Delete all the files from “bp-sn-parent” that are already in your WP Theme (header.php, footer.php, index.php, …). Leave just all sub-directories and “optionsbar.php”, “userbar.php”, “plugin-template.php”, “style.css.
2) Copy this at the bottom of “header.php” (WP Theme):
<?php if ( !bp_is_blog_page() && !bp_is_directory() && !bp_is_register_page() && !bp_is_activation_page() ) : ?>
<?php locate_template( array( ‘userbar.php’ ), true ) /* Load the user navigation */ ?>
<?php locate_template( array( ‘optionsbar.php’ ), true ) /* Load the currently displayed object navigation */ ?>
<?php endif; ?>
3) In the header (comments) of the “style.css” in “bp-sn-parent” theme write this:
Template : your-wp-theme-name
…so you make this theme a child of your WP Theme, right?
4) Activate the “bp-sn-parent” theme in the backend, under “Site Admin/Themes”, then activate it under “Apperance/Themes”.
This will be the theme ofor the whole site, but it’ll call all the WP theme templates when no BuddyPress functions are needed. It’s a reverse way of doing the integration. I think it’s better.
This procedure makes a lot of what you need, I think. Like, it gets your WP Theme working as it should and it “calls” the BuddyPress into play only when needed.
But, I need to warn you that I am still struggling with styling (or skinning) the BP theme.
So, I am still on it. But maybe it was worthing sharing already what I got so far, so that other may take it from there.
Hope it helps…
In reply to: New theme framework and exisiting WP themesThanks for the answear, Detective.
So,the 3 layers thing as suggested by outolumo is never going to work, right?
Does that mean that I will have to merge the “bb-default” css and images files into “bp-sn-parent”?
In reply to: New theme framework and exisiting WP themesDetective, please come and rescue me…
