I just saw your new topic so I’m just gonna post my original message from this thread there and let this thread die since that’s more broad and includes other issues I’ve experienced.

You can search the forums at buddypress.org/forums/search.php, but you have to access that URL directly.

Tried only the user integration but still no luck.

Wardeh – Try anything different to finally get it working?

That’s great news Trent. I’ll have a go at the simple user integration and see how it goes. If the cookies aren’t required to get it working I’ll worry about them down the road.

Yep, got the connection problems solved but probably won’t have time to test much today. I see what you’re saying but we’re integrating WordPress and bbPress and need the cookies to sync. If we can get everything talking properly between WPMU and bbPress it will make any problems we encounter BuddyPress specific. I’m not sure if the plugin works with WPMU, I’m assuming it does but it doesn’t specify either way.

wardeh – I think that is saying that what the plugin used to do is now handled by bbPress but this plugin now does something else, namely recognize the cookies from WordPress. On the main plugin page it says “This plugin is only useful if you are running bbPress version 1.0-alpha-4 or later.”

I haven’t personally tested the new bbPress version or this plugin as I’m having connection problems but will report whatever I find out.

This plugin may also be required with the new bbPress version:

A new version of bbPress, 1.0-Alpha-4, was just released on bbPress.org which “Should fix issues that people had with integrated cookies with WordPress in 1.0-alpha-3 without reverting any new features in it.”

Not sure if this is related to any of our problems but it’d be advisable to upgrade and see if it helps.

Along with the cookie fixes mentioned above, this new release will also assign users a role in bbPress as soon as they visit the forums with WordPress cookies. Previously they needed to log in to be assigned a role.

Try increasing the permissions on the home theme css file (http://wearelabor.com/wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/style.css)

Same here bebopcool, I’m running the new bbPress zip and the trunk WPMU and BuddyPress and have successfully integrated users but can’t get the cookies to work, which I assume is what’s preventing the forum from working. I too have the forum on the group page, but posting on fails.

I can login with my admin account and the new bbpress admin and post directly to the forum but it doesn’t seem to be communicating with BuddyPress.

Good luck! Still no success for me and I’ve tried just about everything I can think of. If I can’t get it working soon I’m going to start with a fresh copy of bbPress again and hope for better results.

Yeah, BuddyPress is definitely seems appropriate for this project. Most everything you mentioned is already in BP or in the works. Even if it’s not, WPMU is easy enough to build on that you could add any remaining features easily.

I’ve been working on this all morning but haven’t had much luck so far using trunk WPMU and the new zip bbPress. I have the users integrated between WPMU and bbPress but can’t get the cookies/SSO to work. Anyone else get it setup yet?

As Andy said they might, it looks like the bbPress team has bumped it up to Alpha 3 and updated the zip.

I’ve been trying to install bbPress using the trunk but I can’t get it to work at all – the forums just load white/blank instead of the installer. I’ve installed and integrated the 1.0 Alpha zip no problem but have had no luck with the latest revision, including manually.

The transition from WordPress to WPMU is really simple. I did it in a few hours and there’s tons of resources out there on how to do it. Let me know if you want me to link some up and I can definitely do that.

As for your question, there’s no plugins I know for regular WordPress to add BuddyPress-like functionality, but Ning.com and KickApps.com may be worth looking into.

WPMU 2.7 was just officially released.

Great news Andy, I’ve updated to the latest trunk and am eagerly awaiting the readme so I can setup the forums.

I assume we’re to use bbPress 1.0? I’ve installed and integrated 0.9.X currently but will switch to 1.0 if that’s what BuddyPress will be using.

maxaud – That feature is in the latest trunk.

While I was going about turning on error reporting I decided to try to remove my custom member theme from the /member-themes/ so that the only theme in the directory was the default /buddypress-member/ theme and the problem was fixed.

Through a little bit of testing it seems that none of the member themes, active or inactive, should have the same name as the WPMU themes. After initially deleting the custom theme I re-uploaded it and the problem came back as expected, however renaming it to something unique made the problems disappear.

    @gogoplata

Yeah Andy, I’ve deleted the theme directory and re-uploaded a clean version several times but with no luck. I also did the same thing with the plugin files as I had some customizations previously and thought one of them might be conflicting, but that also didn’t solve it.

Could it possibly be conflicting with another plugin? My plan was to next start removing plugins one at a time to see if any of them were causing the problem, but it seems odd that something would affect something so specific.

My install is at MMAFrenzy.com if anyone wants to check it out. Everything was fine until between 599 and 638. I already did the move from /themes/ to /member-themes/ so that’s not the issue.

Prior to upgrading everything was displaying perfectly in a custom theme but when I upgraded my custom member theme wasn’t compatible with the upgrades so I reverted to the stock buddypress-member theme. That fixed nearly everything but for some reason the group pages aren’t displaying. mmafrenzy.com/groups is displaying fine (I know, the styling is off) but none of the group pages will show, for example mmafrenzy.com/groups/test-group.

Group pages appear to be the only thing affected as other components, such as profiles and messaging, are working.

    Thanks for the help!

Yep, just upload the files then visit wp-admin to upgrade the database.

This should be fixed in r612:
