I am suprised that such a basic feature of having a global forum is not part of buddypress. @gregfielding I don’t see any other plugin that they offer and I need. So 30$ for having a basic feature such as a forum is not inexpensive to me! phpBB has been free for over 10 years and […]

& I’m with @gregfielding here, we absolutely need a custom background for group pages. Why don’t you use the perfect add_custom_background(); for wp 3.0, just translate it to work from the frontend?

@gregfielding – Sorry for the lack of response, I’ve been away. Are you still having this problem? You’re sure that it’s this plugin that’s causing it? I ask because this plugin should in theory do nothing until someone signs up to be a member of a group, which happens after registration.

@gregfielding Maybe for you BP is about the blogs. For my BP install it’s about the groups. Everyone uses BP a little different, so it’s hard to make broad statements like that.

@gregfielding Your comments are apposite . I did start a thread (you may well have responded in it) trying to get thoughts like this expressed in one place in the hope that there could start to be a little greater community spirit and in the hope the lead/core developers could perhaps read and ask/answer questions from […]

techguy posted on the forum topic How can I redirect to a different page? in the group BP Disable Activation: 14 years, 5 months ago
@gregfielding
Glad you like it. There’s a filter on the redirect url: bp_diable_activation_redirect_url You should be able to hook into it and have it redirect. Not sure about the specific case you mention though. There might be a timing issue. Try it out and let me know. -

@gregfielding Thanks for the thoughts/comments.
Lessee…
1. I have thought about it, and might still implement it as another option in addition to the three currently available. I’ll keep the presets though, since a site admin might have several content generating plugins active, such as group wiki, group blog etc, that might not necessarily…[Read more]

The more I think through this, the more I think the most practical application is the body wallpaper. Most users are already familiar with the concept and it wouldn’t interfere with the site styling the way that css tweaks would. Not that there isn’t a place for css tweaks and themes, but the wallpaper option might be more used.
I would love to…[Read more]

Ohhh, doi, I’m a doofus… you meant for members to personalise their profiles pages. Yes, very good idea. As for css interfering. It’s more or less the idea. In fact, on the site where this all began, group pages are so wildly altered that they pretty much each serve as a standalone site. It’s like multiple blogs without the blogs. I guess the…[Read more]

gotcha…my site is soooo styled, I’m not sure how much freedom I want to give members to tweak the css…maybe a few elements…hmmm.
Wallpaper, on the other hand, seems like a no brainer. I’ve got a fixed-width site and background customized wallpaper makes a lot of sense.
Maybe that’s separate plugin…

My suggestion is to make all your preset themes just be wallpapers. I should probably come up with an easier way to add/delete themes. And perhaps also a place to post/download new ones. I don’t want to distribute bunches of themes with the core package.
-
how about a way for users to upload wallpaper images? (obviously a whole new layer of complexity)
-
Probably will do that in time. For now I will focus on bug fixes and code cleanup, and then after version 1, we’ll see about extending the features.
-
I take that back. I’ll make the Twitter-like thingy next. π
-
Cool! I think that would be VERY popular and people already know how to use it!
-
Well, I’m not going to clone Twitter, if that’s what you are thinking. Anyway, you’ll see.

@0815 You do not need to use any other SEO plugin. Seo for buddypress is designed, to work as standalone full SEO tool. No need of any other software. @mark @gregfielding Compatible means, that the data you have inserted into posts with the other plugins, will be taken over to our plugin. So you don’t have to […]

now that’s a really nice idea! You couldn’t be a friend of a blog, but you could basically follow anything!! It’d open up a lot of possibilities if the followers plugin provided an api for other plugins to hook into… Now, if we could only get our itchy hands on the little bugger…

I would like to duplicate what you did to include the real name on their profile page but can’t find the bp-usernames-only.php – can you let me know where that is located?
edit: doh! nevermind. bp-usernames-only.php is located in the plugin folder and not buddypress itself.

Ok, the only thought – your BP installation is not in the root of the domain.
AND! If you have shortcodes for php (aka ) disabled – it might still doesn’t work.

@hnla I’m having the same issue as @gregfielding, where it causes that same fatal error. I’ve tried on a page and with the widget, neither work. http://www.bizolly.com (bottom left)

@gregfielding Greg the only thing I can see that’s incorrect is this line:

@gregfielding It does work or at least I have it working, I don’t see anything obviously incorrect, is that a period just before the first = try copying the block again and if it still doesn’t work post your block with the previous and last two lines of the original code so I can see if […]
