In reply to: How on earth did I do this?
Thanks Boris!
In reply to: [New Plugin]External Member Blogs@MrMaz – just wanted to give you a heads-up about this issue…
In reply to: [New Plugin]External Member BlogsThis is a great plugin, but there is a problem that I need to figure out how to fix…
By default, external member blog posts are imported either when someone visits that member’s profile page, or every 60 minutes. Except, the 60-minute part isn’t working. I’m sure there could be some conflicts with other plugins, but, from the discussion over at bp-tricks, it seems like a lot of us are having this problem.
Maybe there is a way to tweak the code, or even a chron job to run.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
In reply to: How to I delete Groups started by spammers?Thanks guys.
In reply to: WordPress 3.1Those links should come back when the plugin authors update their plugins to be compatible with 3.1
In reply to: WordPress 3.1This isn’t going to be a simple upgrade…not just for us BP users. Reading through the list of changes, there are a lot of potential plugin conflicts. Probably best a wait a couple of weeks.
In reply to: Buddyvents and MapologyGreat progress Boris
In reply to: Persistent Caching and Private MessagingThanks @r-a-y
This is a better solution. Any thoughts on how to solve the same problem with @mentions?
In reply to: Persistent Caching and Private MessagingFor anyone else with this issue, here is the fix. Thanks to @sbrajesh
in bp-messages-templatetags.php, starting at line 498:
function bp_send_private_message_link() {
echo bp_get_send_private_message_link();
}
function bp_get_send_private_message_link() {
global $bp;if ( bp_is_my_profile() || !is_user_logged_in() )
return false;$user=new WP_User($bp->displayed_user->user_id);
return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_send_private_message_link’, $bp->loggedin_user->domain . $bp->messages->slug . ‘/compose/?r=’ .$bp->displayed_user->userdata->user_login );
}Private messaging now works with persistent caching like memcached.
In reply to: Persistent Caching and Private MessagingIt looks like BP 1.3 is going to address some issues with object caching. https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2636
Can anyone who knows confirm if it will fix these messaging issues?
In reply to: Memcached is breaking private messagingJust to update, I applied the code from the patch with no luck. Here’s what my messages-templatetags.php code now says:
function bp_send_private_message_link() {
echo bp_get_send_private_message_link();
}
function bp_get_send_private_message_link() {
global $bp;if ( bp_is_my_profile() || !is_user_logged_in() )
return false;return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_send_private_message_link’, $bp->loggedin_user->domain . $bp->messages->slug . ‘/compose/?r=’ . bp_core_get_username( $bp->displayed_user->user_id, $bp->displayed_user->userdata->user_nicename, $bp->displayed_user->userdata->user_login ) );
}It looks like I now need to “apply a filter to “bp_get_send_private_message_link” and override it so it doesn’t use bp_core_get_username().” Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks guys.
In reply to: Memcached is breaking private messagingThanks for the link, but I’m confused a bit. My current code already has that patch in it, changing the “public” to “private” looks to be the only switch. I’m guessing this was changed in a more recent BP release?
And, you said:
“With the patch, you’d still need to apply a filter to “bp_get_send_private_message_link” and override it so it doesn’t use bp_core_get_username().
The same problem occurs with the bp_get_send_public_message_link() function – aka the “Mention this user” link.”
It sounds like this is the step I need to take. How exactly do I apply this filter?
Thanks!
In reply to: Memcached is breaking private messagingBatcache isn’t supposed to impact logged-in users, so it seemed like a natural fit for BP.
Paul, you think this is a BP issue as opposed to just tweaking a caching setting?
I know that there are people using BP with memcached and W3Total cache…are any of you guys having trouble with this? (W3TC doesn’t worth with multi-db’s or I’d be using it)
Thanks @modemlooper
In reply to: Mapology – Adding maps for users and groupsI mean that if I click the Main Activity Tab it I go to the activity page with “no filter” as the default and a blank Within field. If I select Within: 750Km, it shows me all activity of members (and I assume groups) within 750km. Brilliant.
But, if I try and filter further and just look for blog posts within 750km, it breaks and shows me ALL blog posts. The “Within” filter seems to only work if there is no other filter selected.
In reply to: Mapology – Adding maps for users and groupsBoris, this is looking great!
On your test site, I can see all activity within a range. Filtering doesn’t work yet, but “all activities” works great.Maybe, until BP 1.3, you could have the distance filter only show when the main filter is set to “no filter”?
Yeah…I was looking at that plugin and a couple of others out there that just don’t seem baked enough.
My plan is to have visitors to my site enter a location and see activity from all members and groups near it as a default stream. I don’t need a bunch of fancy extras, just a proximity filter for members’ activities.
I’d be happy to contribute or help somehow if you could get a new BP GEO to do this.
Thanks!
Thanks Boone!
That works like a charm with a new API key.
Any thoughts on how to incorporate this geotagging into the activity filters? I need to find a way to filter activity by proximity.
For example, all activity by members within 50 miles of you.
In reply to: Mapology – Adding maps for users and groupsBoris,
How about adding activity stream filter support for showing members’ activity within a radius.Like, show me all activity within 50 km, etc.
In reply to: Mapology – Adding maps for users and groupsBoris,
1 more request…
Could you also look into adding RSS feeds for radius search results?It would open the door to a killer iphone app…
In reply to: Mapology – Adding maps for users and groupsGreat. Consider this an official feature request.
In reply to: Mapology – Adding maps for users and groupsJust added my location in your site. Works well.
Would it be possible to search for members within a distance from someplace besides just your location? For example, show everyone within 10 miles of a given city?
In reply to: Buddystrem Twitter ErrorI’ve tried firefox, chrome, and safari and get the same error in all of them.
In reply to: Buddystrem Twitter Error@pisanojm – just making sure you saw this.

Great news Warut! I look forward to it.
