You need to be ALOT more specific on what you are trying to do….
In reply to: Issue with BuddyPress pages and alignment@mercime, I haven’t pinpointed the exact piece of code that triggers it to do this. This is not just an issue with the buddypress forums as other forum software have this issue also, thats why most of them have syntax highlighting for code whenever the code tags are inserted, as syntax highlighting safely puts code inside of the highlight, as of without it, the webpage will attempt to apply that piece of code inserted into the layout of the page. Same with CSS. Occasionally, there is something that clashes with both, so you get the screwed up layout. Example of adding CSS directly to page via code no syntax
Example CSS class through html implemented in forum post…
Why does it do this? I have no clue!
In reply to: Issue with BuddyPress pages and alignmentMaybe a future feature would be “Syntax Highlighting” in the forums, because I get this too all the time in my forums.
In reply to: Issue with BuddyPress pages and alignmentThis is because the code listed above has altered the page layout.
In reply to: forum does not workOn the main forum’s directory, if you post a new topic, it will redirect back to the page right?
But on individual forums it says “there was an error when creating the topic”
In reply to: forum does not work-Tested Hnla’s solution, or rechecking in group settings. No-success
-Tested re-installing forums- No success
-Tested going to default theme- No success.Maybe @hnla can assist me. This man is having problems with forums (error when creating topic), but your solution is not working for him.
He is graciously letting me go in as admin to do some tests, but they all come up negative!
By the way… as I am doing tests, I get a alot of Internal Server Errors…
In reply to: forum does not workWhy thank you for trusting me

I will work on things and test some things in meantime
In reply to: forum does not workYou don’t need to do anything with that file!
Now you need to go to your admin panel and enable the option “allow members to create groups”? Or something along the line of that so I can create a group
Do same with forums
In reply to: forum does not workThere ya go! Thats all you needed.
In reply to: forum does not workActually, before you do that, do you have “anyone can register” setting enabled in your admin panel?
In reply to: forum does not workHere is a potential fix, not guaranteed to work
Go into your database, where you host all your files. Find the file: .htaccess.
It should be in the root of your wordpress.
Scroll down to the end of the file and add this:
`LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so`
In reply to: forum does not workEeek! I can’t register because you have something wrong in your DB, get the dangnabit 404 Not Found Message!
In reply to: forum does not workCan you give a link to your site?
In reply to: forum does not workAh… the famous “there was an error when creating the topic” problem.
Go to your site, and go to a group than you have individually created. (important!)
Go to groups admin –> Group Settings
Now see the little checkbox “enable discussion forum”?
Un-check it, than recheck it, and go to the bottom and click “save”
Try to create new topic now.
(all credits of Hnla for the solution)
In reply to: Buddypress.org avatar border css?hnla your a nut
In reply to: Buddypress.org avatar border css?No, hnla you are right, I will upload the file to your own server and specify the file there.
My bad. I just can’t do anything right!
In reply to: Groups not showing upPrivate Groups’s activity only shows up in activity and search listings if the members are actually currently members of the group.
private groups’ Forums in the group will not show up in the forums directory ever.
In reply to: Buddypress.org avatar border css?I should make this into a quick tip
In reply to: Buddypress.org avatar border css?I tacked this one myself on my site. This is a custom buddypress.org feature, and was all done by using firebug.
The Pointer you see in the borders for the avatars on the profiles is actually a background image, added to the border via CSS.
The Image that buddypress uses is https://buddypress.org/wp-content/themes/buddypress.org/images/av_speech.gif
Now you need to put the proper CSS in your theme’s global css.
`div.activity-avatar {
background: url( images/av_speech.gif ) top right no-repeat;
padding-right: 15px;
overflow: hidden;
width: 50px;
float: left;
margin-right: 10px;
}
div.activity-avatar img.avatar {
border: 4px solid #f0f0f0;
width: 40px;
height: 40px;
}`Now since this is a custom CSS, you will need to tweak the rulesets to match your structure like changing the padding-right to how you like it, but the CSS here is a basic structure and will overall get it how you want it
In reply to: Announcements tab like CUNY?Creating a custom tab in the groups page is quite simple, all it takes is a added code to the bp-custom.php file:
`class My_Group_Extension extends BP_Group_Extension {
function my_group_extension() {
$this->name = ‘My Group Extension’;
$this->slug = ‘my-group-extension’;$this->create_step_position = 21;
$this->nav_item_position = 31;
}function create_screen() {
if ( !bp_is_group_creation_step( $this->slug ) )
return false;
?>The HTML for my creation step goes here.
<?php
wp_nonce_field( ‘groups_create_save_’ . $this->slug );
}function create_screen_save() {
global $bp;check_admin_referer( ‘groups_create_save_’ . $this->slug );
/* Save any details submitted here */
groups_update_groupmeta( $bp->groups->new_group_id, ‘my_meta_name’, ‘value’ );
}function edit_screen() {
if ( !bp_is_group_admin_screen( $this->slug ) )
return false; ?>name ) ?>
Edit steps here
<?php
wp_nonce_field( ‘groups_edit_save_’ . $this->slug );
}function edit_screen_save() {
global $bp;if ( !isset( $_POST ) )
return false;check_admin_referer( ‘groups_edit_save_’ . $this->slug );
/* Insert your edit screen save code here */
/* To post an error/success message to the screen, use the following */
if ( !$success )
bp_core_add_message( __( ‘There was an error saving, please try again’, ‘buddypress’ ), ‘error’ );
else
bp_core_add_message( __( ‘Settings saved successfully’, ‘buddypress’ ) );bp_core_redirect( bp_get_group_permalink( $bp->groups->current_group ) . ‘/admin/’ . $this->slug );
}function display() {
/* Use this function to display the actual content of your group extension when the nav item is selected */
}function widget_display() { ?>
name ) ?>
You could display a small snippet of information from your group extension here. It will show on the group
home screen.<?php
}
}
bp_register_group_extension( ‘My_Group_Extension’ );
`edit the: $this->name = ‘My Group Extension’;
$this->slug = ‘my-group-extension’;to the names and slugs of your likings.
In reply to: I need a good translatorYes, on the admin page, on the right, there is an option “widget style”
Smells like a plugin….. because that is not buddypress
In reply to: “Links” tab within BuddyPress groupIt’s from the “buddypress links” plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-links/
In reply to: PLEASE HELP!!! no group creation option in groupsWhy abandoned? Didn’t the owner say he would pick up the bp issues after that?
Buddypress was designed for only one theme to be guaranteed to work on, (or maybe more themes now) but buddypress does not guarantee complete 100% comparability to all themes, you have to make it and tweak it to work on your theme. And some themes just were not built for buddypress, so if buddypress is an absolute need, maybe a theme change wouldn’t hurt.
In reply to: Suggesting friends to usersbased on a surveypoll, thats not a plugin that I have seen yet.
There is a plugin that can invite users to become friends https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/invite-anyone/
