In reply to: Visual editor not workingHi @andy60rm
If you can nail down the culprit, it’s always a good idea to open a new topic on the plugin’s support forum. Then hopefully a fix can be released by the plugin author 🙂
Don’t forget activity comments are different to WordPress post comments so you’ll need to find the right action for those to work.
I added it at the end of my theme’s functions.php file. I’m using Twenty Fifteen to test.
That’s strange, I just tested and it works fine for me?
In reply to: not receiving account confirmation emailWhilst waiting for a response from your host, try checking your spam folder to be sure nothing is dropping in that.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. So it looks like we will need to add our actions instead of removing them. Here’s where the fun part begins. You’ll need to find a list of all the action types you want in your stream and add them to the following snippet:
add_filter( 'bp_after_has_activities_parse_args', function( $retval ) { $retval['action'] = array( 'activity_update', 'activity_comment', 'another_action_here_etc', ); return $retval; } );Obviously, don’t include
updated_profileornew_avatar.In reply to: BP project infoI doubt there’s a tutorial on this particular setup, but any specific questions you have feel free to post here and we’ll do our best to help you out 🙂
In reply to: Birthday NotificationsThe page you linked to describes how to add a web notification. The example on that page hooks to the
bp_activity_sent_mention_emailaction which means every timebp_activity_sent_mention_emailis executed, a web notification will be sent. In your case, you’d still usebp_notifications_add_notification()to send the notification but you will want to send a notification to a particular member only if a friend of that member has a birthday.The
wp_schedule_event()function might be helpful to you: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_schedule_eventIf you’re already using WordPress then BuddyPress might be a good option because of how tightly integrated the two are. BuddyPress is just a plugin so to get started you simply have to activate it from your WordPress dashboard.
My advice would be to set up a test install and give BuddyPress a try. You’ll then get a feel for if it will meet your exact requirements. Lastly, if BuddyPress core doesn’t have the functionality you need, then you’ll find many plugins in the Plugin Directory written specifically for BuddyPress. Taking a quick look at your requirements, one that you may want to check out is BuddyPress Follow.
Do you mind doing a little debugging for me? If you paste the following code into your theme’s functions.php file (make sure this is done on your testing install). Then visit the activity stream. You should see some output dumped on the screen. Can you copy that and paste it here?
add_filter( 'bp_after_has_activities_parse_args', function( $retval ) { var_dump( $retval['action'] ); return $retval; } );Can you paste the code you’re using?
To add, I think
updated_profileis the action you’re looking for.The code removes updates like “Ben changed his profile photo”. It doesn’t remove stuff like “Ben posted an update”. In the code you’ll see I’ve used
new_avatar. That’s one particular action. Feel free to add more by adding another block. For example:// Rest of code here. // Remove new_avatar items. if ( ( $key = array_search( 'new_avatar', $parts ) ) !== false ) { unset( $parts[$key] ); } // Remove another action. if ( ( $key = array_search( 'action_here', $parts ) ) !== false ) { unset( $parts[$key] ); } // Rest of code here.To stop “profile photo updated” updates being displayed in your activity stream, try this:
add_filter( 'bp_after_has_activities_parse_args', function( $retval ) { // Convert $retval['action'] into an array. $parts = explode( ',', $retval['action'] ); // Remove new_avatar items. if ( ( $key = array_search( 'new_avatar', $parts ) ) !== false ) { unset( $parts[$key] ); } // Convert $parts back into a comma separated string. $retval['action'] = implode( ',', $parts ); return $retval; } );Please note I haven’t tested.
In reply to: SearchHi lekins101
This doesn’t answer your question but you might want to consider using BP Profile Search. I’ve used it in the past and it was pretty good at finding users.
This article is super valuable if you plan on filtering the activity loop:

In reply to: BuddyPress no longer working with 4.5 updateSorry for the delay, I seem to a missed your reply. Try deactivating each of those plugins 1 by 1 to see if any are causing the problem.
In reply to: Change Registration PhrasesHi @lekins101
See the Customizing Labels, Messages, and URLs article for info on how that’s done.

In reply to: Changing the word GroupsIf you change the URL, then requests to the old URL should return a 404. That’s the expected (and recommended) behaviour.
