    @jmunce no problem! I’ve submitted to the offical repo so hopefully it’ll be available in the Plugin Directory soon.

    I’ll definitely be adding the @ friends command next. Let me know if you think of any more commands that might be useful 🙂

    My @group sent an alert (red dot) to group members! Functioning

    @jmunce thanks for testing!

    The problem @venutius found earlier was due to a conflict with another plugin. This will be resolved in the next version.

    Yeah bbp is usually the prefix used for bbPress functions, so when you see it, think of bbPress. BuddyPress uses bp instead.

    Also, just to add, when you see a prefix preceded with an underscore _ such as _bbp_activity_id, it usually means that particular function or variable is intended for internal use, and isn’t really part of any API offered. However, it is just a convention and not all plugins stick to it.

    Thanks @venutius, if you could open a new issue on GitHub for each separate issue you find that will be great 🙂

    Like @venutius said, this is likely to be theme related. Considering the theme is premium, nobody here can see the code in order to try and help. You should open a support ticket on the plugin’s support website.

    I’m still not getting any emails

    You won’t get emails. Only “web” notifications are issued. That’s intentional because for large websites which have many groups with 1,000s of members each, it would put too much strain on the website’s email server. In contrast, “web” notifications are handled with ease.

    Surely it should send to the group creator?

    The creator is a group admin (group admins are slightly different to group moderators).

    Thanks for the report @venutius. I’ve now fixed those warnings.

    Do you have moderators set up in the group that you’re testing in? If not, the @mod command won’t send notifications.

    @henrywright

    @venutius you may have spotted a bug! Can you try again with @group and @mod (both lowercase)?

    @henrywright

    @venutius you’ll need to ensure the activity, groups and notification components are all activated. Of course, BuddyPress also needs to be installed.

    Within a group, if you create an activity update or comment with the text @group, everyone in that group will get a web notification. The same goes for @mod, but in that case only moderators within that group will get a notification.

    Thanks for the Group > Manage setting idea. I will do that at some point!

    Yep, that’s intentional but I agree it may not be a wise idea and is something I’d consider changing if things get crazy.

    I just wanted to let everyone come to the party and if a party goer misbehaves, hopefully a mod or admin can step in. 🙂

    I haven’t tried it but there’s also BuddyPress Compliments.

    Looks good, haven’t test it yet.

    Thanks 🙂

    Suggestion: a filter hook for $text in the format functions

    I have internationalised the text strings. You can localise via the buddypress-crowdmentions text domain?

    Hi @jmunce @venutius

    I’ve just finished building Crowdmentions. Currently the @group and @mod commands are supported when used within a group context. I’ll be adding support for more commands going forward, such as @friends.

    I’d be grateful for your feedback if you have time to test it out.

    Thanks 🙂

    Are you sure he wasn’t using a tagging plugin? Alternatively he could have been referring to @-mentions.

    For example, this @bahamamom66 is an @-mention which kind of “tags” you.

    There is limited spam potential, but if groups have mods mods can ban / restrict membership. And the plugin would only be used by those who thought the benefits outweighed.

    I thought the same thing!

    If anyone knows how, maybe you could point me towards the general code scheme for this and I can work on it as well.

    Keep an eye on my GitHub repo, I should have something available within the next day or two.

    I agree a context-sensitive @group is a good idea. I don’t think anything wider reach than “All friends” or “all group members” is a great idea because of how noisy it would be on any decently-sized BP site

    Completely agree @djpaul. I’ll make it so.

    Thanks @venutius! I’ll let you know once it’s ready by posting back here.

    @djpaul come on, where’s your sense of adventure? This could be fun 😛

    @venutius sure, i’ll make sure to add some instructions showing which commands are available.

    Generate @ mentions for all group members.

    @shanebp I’m also going to add support for more commands such as @mod, which will mention the group’s moderators.

    Crowdmentions is in progress.

    @henrywright

    Maybe use an illegal character at the beginning of the mention string? So:

    @-group

    @-all

    @-channel

    I’m not sure I like that approach though as people may forget the -. How does Slack avoid the problem? They seem to use mentions without illegal characaters such as @channel @all and @everyone without any problems.

    @henrywright

    How would you guys suggest this works?

    @group

    @all

    @channel

    What if these are usernames too? I’m wondering about the best way to do this.

    In post #190874 on the topic you’ve linked to, snippet 2 has the line:

    $excluded_user='1'; // Id's to remove, separated by comma

    You can just add more user IDs like this and those IDs will be excluded from the loop:

    $excluded_user='1,34,56,201'; // Id's to remove, separated by comma

    So it is better for this plugin to do the styling.

    BuddyPress is intentionally built to be flexible. Even though it works well “out-of-the-box” it isn’t designed to be finished. If we added everything to core, then it would bloat the project. The idea is for you to extend your own personal copy of BuddyPress with plugins and themes to make it unique. There’s 2m+ BuddyPress sites out there (according to the number of downloads) and we wouldn’t want them all looking and acting the exact same.

    Something like this:

    function sm60_filter( $html, $user_id ) {
        // Get the data we need.
        $display_name = bp_core_get_user_displayname( $user_id );
        $url = bp_core_get_user_domain( $user_id );

        // Now you can filter.
        $html = '<span class="display-name"><a href="' . $url . '" title="' . $display_name . '">' . $display_name . '</a></span>';
        return $html;
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_core_get_userlink', 'sm60_filter', 10, 2 );
