In reply to: [Resolved] create a link or redirect
Hi @dwsowash
A simple HTML link can be created like this:
<a href="http://gothicspider.com/members/username/profile/" title="Title">Link text</a>Is this what you mean? Or were you looking for something dynamic?
In reply to: Activity StreamYou could remove the delete button?
In reply to: Limit bbpress to one forumHi @bee7er
bbPress-related questions should be posted on the bbPress support forums. Try opening a new topic over there so those guys can help with the problem you’re having.
In reply to: Remove render-blocking JavaScriptIt probably isn’t a good idea to remove some of these JavaScript files because you’d lose functionality and maybe even break stuff. The alternative to removing the files would be to move them to your website’s footer so they execute after your page content.
Hi @iryna_b
Your question is more bbPress related so try asking the guys over at the bbPress forum.
In reply to: Custom post video share@danbp, MediaPress looks exciting (and promising!). Looking forward to trying that out…
In reply to: [Resolved] Disable @mentions (links) completely@doremdou the code @danbp provided should stop @-names being ‘linkified’. The function that ‘linkifies’ @-names begins like this:
function bp_activity_at_name_filter( $content, $activity_id = 0 ) { // Are mentions disabled? if ( ! bp_activity_do_mentions() ) { return $content; }...As you can see, if
bp_activity_do_mentions()returnsfalsethen$contentis returned unmodified (i.e. @-names aren’t linked).In your case, you’re making sure the function returns false via
add_filter( 'bp_activity_do_mentions', '__return_false' );So this should be working. There must be something else going on here…
In reply to: [Resolved] Disable @mentions (links) completelyHi @doremdou
You can disable @-mentions with the BuddyPress No Mentions plugin.
In reply to: Admin label in buddypress profilesSee my first post in this thread. That should do it for you.
In reply to: Should I use BuddyPress for this clients request?BuddyPress allows you to have:
- member profiles
- an advanced member search (through the BP Profile Search plugin)
- private messaging
So it looks like your requirements are covered. My advice would be to set up a test install and try out all of the features to see if they meet your requirements.
In reply to: Admin label in buddypress profilesYou’ll need to modify the templates to achieve that.
In reply to: Admin label in buddypress profilesI’ve no idea what you might have read but you can accomplish this via hooks. Specifically, the
bp_profile_header_metacould be what you need. Try adding this to your theme’s functions.php file:function my_output_user_role_function() { if ( user_can( bp_get_member_user_id(), 'manage_sites' ) ) echo 'Role: network administrator'; } add_action( 'bp_profile_header_meta', 'my_output_user_role_function' );Note: You can change the text Role: network administrator to whatever you like.
In reply to: Admin label in buddypress profilesHi @reinaldudras,
user_can()is the function you need. For example:if ( user_can( bp_get_member_user_id(), 'manage_sites' ) ) echo 'network administrator';Note: Untested. There’s a slightly different method of getting the member’s ID depending on the exact context you need. I suspect
bp_get_member_user_id()will work.Ref: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/user_can
In reply to: Add Friend Button and WPNONCE problemsYou would add it to your template for the single member page.
Take a look at the Template Hierarchy article for more info on setting up your BP templates.
In reply to: Add Friend Button and WPNONCE problemsTry using
bp_add_friend_button()to generate the button’s markup. That should create a valid wpnonce for you.In reply to: Add Friend Button and WPNONCE problemsI can see you’re passing the wpnonce via
?_wpnonce=846748ee21but how are you generating it and how are you verifying it?In reply to: Add Friend Button and WPNONCE problemsWhat’s your button markup?
In reply to: Can WP & BP handle 1000+comments per day?Post comments definitely scale. Personally, I’ve not had experience with a site that receives a massive amount of activity comments but as @djpaul points out, these should scale just fine too.
In reply to: Can WP & BP handle 1000+comments per day?As @djpaul mentioned earlier, the terminology is important because ‘comments’ can refer to 2 things:
- post comments
- activity comments.
Post comments are handled by WordPress and are stored in the wp_comments database table (see here). Activity comments are handled by BuddyPress and are stored in a custom table created by BP called bp_activity (see here).
In reply to: Can WP & BP handle 1000+comments per day?I’ve found the most important quality you should look for in a hosting company is support. A host that offers good support and is accommodating to your needs is worth a million bucks (my own personal opinion and from experience).
In reply to: Stylizing the Register pageHi @dwsowash
You can create a child theme and then add your custom CSS to your child theme’s style.css file. Check out this article on Child Themes to get you started.
In reply to: Registration Page ProblemsCan you try doing some tests with the Twenty Fourteen theme to see if the problem still happens?
You can use
bp_core_remove_nav_item( $parent_id )to remove items from the navigation array.$parent_idis the slug of the parent navigation item. So, for example:function my_nav_item_removal_function() { bp_core_remove_nav_item( 'friends' ); } add_action( 'init', 'my_nav_item_removal_function' );In reply to: Hiding the BuddyPress menu on specific BP pagesI’m using the
bp_nav_menu_argsfilter hook to modify the args sent tobp_nav_menu(). The code assumes you’re usingbp_nav_menu()to display your navigation menu. By changing the value of$args['echo']tofalse, a string containing the nav menu markup is returned (i.e. not echo’d to screen).The 2nd line is just a conditional to govern which pages the filter function applies to.
I didn’t get the chance to test it myself. Can you provide more info on how it isn’t working?
In reply to: Hiding the BuddyPress menu on specific BP pagesHi @tomatillo
It’s definitely possible. Actually, there’s probably many ways to do it.
Try adding this to your theme’s functions.php file:
function my_custom_bp_nav_menu( $args ) { if ( bp_is_current_action( 'following' ) || bp_is_current_action( 'followers' ) ) $args['echo'] = false; return $args; } add_filter( 'bp_nav_menu_args', 'my_custom_bp_nav_menu' );Note: I haven’t tested.
