Exactly, but I’ve aired my views on this subject before, revisiting the API is something that requires doing at some point .

I would say this is one of the issues that is frustrating for frontend developers that some ‘things’ require disproportionate effort to effect change, The view link mentioned one of those, there is a limit to the very clever string parsing filters I’m prepared to write to make a link disappear 🙂

Turn off PHP ‘Safe Mode’

Sounds like ‘headers already sent’ error. check your closing or opening PHP tags there mustn’t be a carriage return after you close php, no extra lines added that qualify as browser output .

Ensure that you can write to / have a .htaccess file. Navigate to the WP permalinks section of the dashboard and ensure you have selected one of the options and saved, what, if any, messages do you get after saving? if none are the links now working?

Adding the index.php path part into the url is only something I’ve seen in reference to the ‘Almost Pretty Permalinks’ There is no reason to want this really; it certainly will not aid search engines. Likely insufficient PHP script memory, php.ini needs to have the script mem limit increased; but you have provided insufficient information for a more meaningful response, it could be due to other reasons.
