Paul I locked this thread as it was a duplicate as I made note of. I responded to the other here:

What, if any, plugins are you using? what versions of WP & BP are you running. When you say user of ‘Main’ site what exactly do you mean, all members are subscribers to the main blog that runs BP. When you say that they can ‘see your admin’ how are you establishing that fact; if […]

Great stuff, the validator will help to identify problems, but don’t get frustrated trying to correct all errors or warnings it may report; to some extent due to the nature of third party plugins and WP you will find errors introduced that simply prove too awkward to fix without going into the core plugin files […]

It’s not a plugin If you have the latest WP V 3.0 then you can enable it as Multi Site and let users create blogs. head over to the WP codex for a guide on getting this done.

🙂 Add the html validator plugin for Firefox that will give you real time sgml validation that matches the W3C validator but offline has you develop

Not sure what Automattic would or should be doing? Features that perhaps ought to be part of the core is on the agenda to be discussed at the dev chat with a view to identifying some of the work that might be suitable for bringing into the core and I would expect something like Jeff’s […]

I’m afraid to say that the layout does not hold together in Opera either and this is a ‘Modern’ generation browser that supports Standrds and CSS very well. Validating markup is key to many layout issues and even mod1 eyeballs. <php /* Template Name: Custom Front Page */ ?> At the top of your index […]

@pcwriter you don’t provide anything for anyone to look at 🙂
However whenever anyone states that something works on one page but not another that generally means that there is somewhere what should be fairly obvious differences in markup or CSS between the two.

Folks I’m sure Jeff will update and hopefully release the first stable version soon but bear in mind that it’s pretty involved plugin dealing with an area that is quite tricky so requires careful testing before releasing in the wild. We must take care not to impose too much on plugin authors that are essentially […]

Have to admit slightly surprised Shared Hosting accounts can do this, but there you go! I have tested running BP as low as 2MB, loading, unloading plugins, running the site performing various basic tasks and it didn’t crap out at all. Anything above 64MB is likely to be fine for most situations your new limit […]

Well that will be plenty 🙂 64MB should normally be sufficient but it all depends on what is running. Does the Grid service make you pay a monthly fee to have a healthy PHP mem limit, bit unusual. If you can stretch to it I would get the basic starter VDS from them.

@modemlooper it was default theme originally , then you must have seen 2010 now I see something called sufusion not really going to be possible to help with themes changing on a second by second basis 🙂

Hmm there are too many overflow:hiddens really, some are not required, such as on floated elements as floats create their own new stacking context and therefore have to contain floated children, and there is a mix of float:left and position:absolute on the same element in the centre column where both can never exist together pos:abs […]

Well it doesn’t appear that easy to reproduce as I’ve just tried on my production server test site running WP 3.0 and BP 1.2.5. Created a new group, set it as hidden, Added an update, and a forum thread and there is no sign of the two pieces of data in the activity stream. This […]

You would simply ensure the existing DB had new domain name entries, having ensured safety backups in case of disasters. You might want to set up a 301 permanent redirect from old domain to new though

hnla posted on the forum topic Moving to a new URL. in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 9 months ago
Should simply be a case of trawling through the DB and changing all instances of the old domain name to the new one.

Clarify “move to a new url”? Do you mean you are simply moving to a new server or actually to a new domain name?

I get hoping mad when people send me Word files, I hate the presumption that I would have or want bloated MS software, other than the sadly necessary OS. pdf is in terms of this discussion a safe format, Word doc files are not getting uploaded to any server that I can exercise control of, […]

The OP mentions allowing upload of Word docs so they could contain Macro viruses, I would not be allowing Word docs to be uploaded unless they could be screened in some fashion.
