  • Not really, it’s more complicated than it need be for a simple property adjustment but thats the way of things, creating a child theme is a good idea even though fairly involved – once done you’ll realise it’s not really – it will allow freedom to adjust/overwrite further styles set in the default theme without […]

  • Haven’t got a huge amount of time of time to look in detail, as trying to get through stuff at the moment which ‘m not really feeling the love for. I would have thought that it’s simply requiring the DB field creation stages? Had a quick look through the group-tag plugin but either missing it’s […]

  • A decent code editor ought to be able to do searches across multiple files open or closed. I ran into the member screen template issue myself couldn’t figure out where settings screen was being rendered from, plugins.php living above the other folders with screen layouts/loops just doesn’t really make sense especially not as somewhere to […]

  • Willing to help with what? have you actually stopped and looked carefully at the options in the dashboard under the BuddyPress section? Is this what you are talking about? If not then you MUST be far clearer on what it is that you are trying to achieve. Couple of points of order for future reference: telling […]

  • This has been an issue for a while. Time stamps have been, for whatever reasons, rather problematical for BP, one instance occurring in the activity stream was corrected, yet later I too noticed the issue re-surface in sent messages, I did establish all relevant timezones were correct when the issue first manifested so it’s unlikely […]

Paul, I don’t think it’s ever been in question how much is owed by so many to so few (that’s a hacked famous quote ) and I think we’ve all expressed thanks and acknowledgement to that small band of brothers at one time or another; as for the thread turning into a ” Roast or […]

@apeatling Andy regards commit access I would have thought that you already have at least four guys here that seem to have a pretty deep understanding of the code base involved would it not be a start and indeed lighten the burden on yourself and JJJ if they were to have commit access right away? <quote […]

@jjj it’s not simply about fixing bugs though. Commitment is also a difficult subject and I’m in total sympathy with your plight vis a vis work commitments, I would love nothing more than to be able to devote 100% of my time to really getting to grips with BP but it aint going to happen, I […]

  • I’ve wondered this as well. I mark as spammer, and I guess really one ought to leave them marked as, however I don’t particularly want an ever increasing list of spammers in the DB when I do backups so will go through the list and delete them. Certain persistent spammers are blocked though if you […]

Ditto what Paul said, the meat and bones of this thread is not really centered around how to elect leaders, Matt part of the issue is to do with your statement “If you want to get involved, get involved” TBH that is possibly a rather trite statement, many of us here are trying to be […]

  • That’s what I mentioned in my first response, but seemed to cause confusion. Ning and BP have a slightly different approach, Ning blogs are not – in some senses – real blogs whereas what WP 3.0 MS offers are actual WP blogs for your registered users.

oops 🙂 @andy could you please forward all recent @mentions to @apeatling @mikepratt It is surprising the amount of talent available , and that all appear to have been around the block a few times 🙂 on a sidenote and to add a little levity to the thread Jeff Sayre wrote a interesting little post on his blog […]

  • Are you being asked to grant ftp access for the download?

  • Yeah wouldn’t hope to replicate all Nings features on BudyyPress. Default core BP doesn’t have blogs in the Ning sense, but iirc there is a plugin that creates a group blog, have a hunt through the plugins listings.

  • You have to go to Super Admin > themes and enable your required themes for the network before individual blogs can see and activate a theme in their dashboard

  • At risk of confusing matters there is also this possible approach: on the group directory page change the avatar and group name permalinks to point not to the /group-name/ i.e ‘Home’ screen but to the /group-name/forum/ <div class=”item-title”><a href=”<?php (!bp_group_is_forum_enabled() )? bp_group_permalink(): bp_group_forum_permalink()…[Read more]

I’d echo those comments Mike, but it’s also slightly imposing to ask or even expect DJPaul/Jeff/r-a-y/ to take on board the leadership of things – as much as I would love them to, and would hope they would (I have expressed surprise that as Mods the team appear to have very little useful power and […]

  • You can do as rich! has suggested effectively removing the posting form, but also you can do things like set the group home page to be the forum tab rather than the general ‘all which has happened in one big hit’ page, it can help in this way users are dropped into the forum section […]

  • Updates Vs Forums? it’s a tricky one, I too want to encourage discussions and tend to find that users will post an update when in reality it would have been far better made as a forum topic or would it? Users can comment on updates made and in a threaded manner so there is a […]

  • slightly confused by the request. WP 3.0 has the capability to allow user blogs as either sub domains or directories, would that achieve your request? failing that you can always set users as ‘Authors’ on the main blog which would allow them to create posts. Simply creating a page and naming it what you like […]
