    Hey,

Thanks a lot for the info, but the members aren’t under pending. They actually are under subscribers in the back end dashboard, they just don’t show up in the BP members directory. I did find a similar topic here but the plugin that fixed their problem doesn’t exist anymore.

Is deleting the users and re-creating them the only way to fix this? Or do you think once the users log on and do something they will populate in the members directory?

    Thanks again Dan!

    Hey there!

Welcome to the BP community, I hope you decide to take the dive. I was where you are about three months ago. Though I’m not an expert, I can offer a fellow newbie perspective after a couple of months in.

    1. Yes, if you mean can you have your activity feed as your homepage. Though if you want it to look like facebook or twitter color and layout wise you’ll have to look into a fb/twitter type of theme. (google wordpress themes or wordpress premium themes if you don’t mind paying)

    2. You can send a friend request. If you want to add a follow button, you’ll have to look into plugins. (google wordpress plugins)

    3. Nope, but that’s again where a plugin can help you out. I use Hashbuddy. Works perfectly.

    4. Again a plugin. Usually a sharing one you’ll have embedded in your pages, post or activity feed. BP doesn’t come equipped with photo/video support, so plugin. I use Activity Stream Plus and Mediapress is pretty comprehensive although it’s still in/just coming out of beta.

    5. And yes, you can set this option in your BP settings so every user can create groups.

Hope this helps! I know it can be a daunting and overwhelming start with so many options out there. BP is pretty easy to learn and pretty solid right out of the box. Add some plugins to give it polish and its a real nice product. Make sure you google themes and plugins to get a good idea of what’s out there. Best of luck to you!

    Hey,

Have you had any luck fixing it? Im not sure what would cause that to happen. Is it that your buddypress activities won’t post or that your blog posts disappeared?

The only thing I can think to do would be to go into a fresh copy of WP and copy the complete bp-acitivity-loader.php page and paste it on the file on your site. See if that brings back up your posts. If it does, then try to change the name again and see if it works.

    Best of luck!

    Hey,

I’m a newcomer to all of this and I can’t answer your overall question, but I can tell you how to change the name “Site-Wide Activity” on the activity page. You go to: wp-content>plugins>buddypress>bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php and the title is towards the top the in $GLOBAL array. And you can change it from “Site-Wide Activity” to whatever you want.

I’ll be following this tho. I’ve been looking for way to customize my BP wall and make it look not so bland. I hope someone else can help you further!

Go to your profile page on your site. Next to ‘View’ there is ‘Edit’. Click on ‘Edit’ and you can change fields like your name, etc. and you can also see it’s visibility. You can change visibility settings by going to your admin dashboard and playing around with the profile fields under the Users tab. Your users will be able to see their profile visibility under their profile tab and have the ability to change it (if you give them that option).

Hope this helps! Took me a while to get it too.

    Hey Everyone,

I still haven’t found out how to save edits in chrome inspector or how to customize my wall more…BUT I did find out how to do what was most important to me, which is change the text ‘Site-Wide Activity’ on the activity stream page. I found the solution here on a forum through a google search. Unfortunately I was on a work computer and left before copying the link and now of course I can’t find that forum anymore. Thank god I wrote it down!

Anywho, you find it in: wp-content>plugins>buddypress>bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php and its toward the top the in $GLOBAL array.

Thanks to the stranger who found this!

And any help on how to design or what files to mess with to play the design of the activity stream is greatly appreciated!

    Hey,

I’m running BP on a local setup myself. Also new about two weeks in. But for my local installation, my link is localhost/mysite/pretty-link. Shouldn’t yours be similar?

    Hey,

I’m pretty new to BP myself, started my site about two weeks ago. I use the Absolute Privacy plugin. You can lockdown the complete site or include a members area. What’s great about this plugin is that you can put the page ID of pages that you still want to visible to logged out users. So, for example, while logged out my users can still access the registration page, our about page, a history page and our terms and service. Other than that all other pages clicked on send them to the login page or whichever page you designate.

Important note: You need a plugin that will show you the page ID numbers for your pages. There’s someway to find it on WP but no one on the forums explained it in a way I could understand. I use Reveal IDs. Really simple install and the IDs show up right on your pages panel. Overall the Absolute Privacy plugin was worth the double download.

I hope this helps. If not, I think I have the names of some the other plugins I used but didn’t work for me. Maybe they might for you. Anyways, good luck!
