To eliminate issues with a particular handler, I have also tried the install under CGI and SuPHP

Quick update. I had the same result with previous versions 2,1 and 2.0. I was able to install BP 1.7 and activate it OK. I then tried then to update 1.7 in the dashboard and received the same error. http://screencast.com/t/dDHQkgwP0
